In a first round that is shaping up to be a stage for heated debates - or chair-like, if you'll allow me to be poetic - Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) leads the race with 29.4% of voting intentions. Right behind, fighting inch by inch for the electorate, are Pablo Marçal (PRTB) with 25.4% and the current mayor, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), with 22.9%. The tight race demonstrates the volatility of the scenario and the electorate's search for a candidate who represents, perhaps as in Plato's allegory of the cave, the best version of the “reality” they desire for the city.
The time series, like a historical map of voting intentions, reveals that Boulos has remained consistent in his leadership since May, while Marçal and Nunes have experienced significant fluctuations, largely due to the fact that they are competing for the same voters (Bolsonarista), unlike Boulos, who does not have a worthy opponent in Tabata to compete for the same voters on the opposite side (Lulista). Marçal, who emerged in August with 28% of intentions, has seen his popularity fluctuate in recent weeks. Nunes, in turn, has been on a downward trajectory, losing ground to his opponents since the beginning of the year.
Demographic segmentation analysis allows us to draw detailed profiles of the electorate and the strategies of candidates to win over each niche. Boulos, for example, finds greater support among women (31.3%), young people (33% between 16 and 24 years old) and those with higher education (32.7% with higher education). Marçal, in turn, demonstrates greater strength among evangelicals (38.2%) and those with lower incomes (31.8% with a family income of up to R$3,000). Nunes, on the other hand, finds greater support among Catholics (32.3%) and the age group between 45 and 59 years old (31.5%).
The second-round scenarios point to fierce clashes and surprising twists. In a possible dispute between Boulos and Nunes, the PSOL candidate would emerge victorious with 48% of the votes, compared to 37% for the current mayor. In a clash with Marçal, the dispute is more intense, with Boulos winning by 48% to 40%. However, the candidate who emerges as the most competitive in all simulated scenarios is Tabata Amaral. The federal deputy wins all simulations, including against Boulos, by a significant margin of 18 percentage points (56% to 38%). However, since she will not make it to the second round, this analysis will remain in the realm of ideas and such a clash will not happen in the real world.
The high rejection rate of Nunes, whose approval rating plummeted to 33% in September, is a determining factor in the analysis of the second round. The majority of São Paulo residents (56%) disapprove of his administration, which calls into question his ability to be reelected.

Em uma eventual disputa entre Boulos e Nunes, o candidato do PSOL sairia vitorioso com 48% dos votos, contra 37% do atual prefeito. Já em um embate com Marçal, a disputa se mostra mais acirrada, com Boulos vencendo por 48% a 40%. No entanto, quem se consolida como a candidata mais competitiva em todos os cenários simulados é Tabata Amaral. A deputada federal vence todas as simulações, inclusive contra Boulos, por uma diferença expressiva de 18 pontos percentuais (56% a 38%). Porém como ela não irá para o segundo turno, essa análise ficará apenas no mundo das ideias e tal embate não acontecerá no mundo real.
A alta rejeição de Nunes, cuja aprovação despencou para 33% em setembro, é um fator determinante para a análise do segundo turno. A maioria dos paulistanos (56%) desaprova sua gestão, o que coloca em xeque sua capacidade de se reeleger.
A pesquisa também nos oferece um panorama crítico dos desafios que a próxima gestão terá que enfrentar. A criminalidade (67%), a saúde (60,9%) e a educação (41,6%) são as principais preocupações dos paulistanos, seguidas por questões como transporte público (11,6%), poluição (10,8%) e habitação (10,3%).
