Als offizieller Grund wird die Beliebtheit von Digital-Abos (Disney+) angegeben.
Disney ist ein wichtiges Filmstudio und es könnte ein Versuchsballon sein, damit das eigene Streaming-Angebot zu pushen und sich langsam aus dem DVD-Geschäft zurückzuziehen, das ohnehin immer weiter schrumpft.
Anderseits kann man nicht alle Filme / Serien digital erwerben und Video-On-Demand-Plattformen können digitale Inhalte (sogar bereits gekaufte) jederzeit von der Plattform entfernen oder sogar Änderungen am Content vornehmen und bestimmte Versionen zensieren oder geo-blocken.
4K Blu-Rays bieten auch immer noch die beste Ton- und Bildqualität, an die Streaming wegen der limitierten Internet-Bandbreite noch nicht herankommt.
Denke, dass physische Medien eine Nische für Sammler werden bzw. bereits geworden sind. So ähnlich wie Vinyl-Platten. Wäre schade, wenn das aussterben würde? Was denkt ihr?

Disney Australia has surprisingly announced that it will no longer distribute physical media (DVDs/Blu-Rays) in Australia / New Zealand. Are DVDs dying out now?
The official reason given is the popularity of digital subscriptions (Disney+).
Disney is a major movie studio and it could be a trial balloon to push its own streaming service with it and slowly withdraw from the DVD business, which is shrinking anyway.
On the other hand, not all movies / series can be purchased digitally and video-on-demand platforms can remove digital content (even already purchased) from the platform at any time or even make changes to the content and censor or geo-block certain versions.
4K Blu-rays also still offer the best sound and picture quality, which streaming can't yet match due to limited internet bandwidth.
I think physical media will become or already has become a niche for collectors. Kind of like vinyl records. Would be a shame if that died out? What do you think?
