Mit den Zöllen gegen Taiwan möchte Trump, den taiwanesischen Chiphersteller TSMC dazu drängen, die Chipproduktion in die USA zu verlegen.
Bereits unter Biden wurde mit Milliarden-Subventionen eine Chip-Fabrik in Arizona errichtet, zwei weitere sollen folgen.
Trotzdem werden immer noch 90% der Chips in Taiwan hergestellt.
Die TSMC-Fabriken in Arizona sind im Moment eher Symbol-Politik.
Das möchte Trump ändern und droht damit einem seiner wichtigsten Verbündeten, Zölle einzuführen. Ganz durchdacht ist das nicht, da die Zölle auch die US-Wirtschaft hart treffen würden, die von der Chip-Produktion in Taiwan abhängt.
Ziel von Trump ist die gesamte US-anteilige Chipproduktion in die USA zu verlegen. Taiwan soll dann die Chips für den Rest der Welt herstellen und den weltweiten KI-Chip-Exportbeschränkungen der USA unterliegen.
Die USA möchte mit dieser Strategie unabhängiger von Taiwan werden, damit einer Invasion Chinas verbeugen, und eine weltweite Hegemonie bei KI-Rechenzentren mit Sanktionen/Exportbeschränkungen und Zöllen durchsetzen.
Wie berichtet sollen mindestens 50% der weltweiten KI-Rechenleistung direkt in den USA liegen, in Tier 1 und Tier 2-Ländern sollen hauptsächlich US-amerikanische Cloud-Anbieter die KI-Rechenleistung kontrollieren. Tier 3 wie China und Russland sollen komplett von der KI-Chip-Produktion abgeschnitten werden.
Denke die Chipproduktion weltweit zu diversifizieren, ist grundsätzlich eine vernünftige Strategie.
Die neuen Zoll-Drohungen und die weltweite Distribution von KI-Chips auch in Europa einzuschränken, stößt aber auch US-Verbündete wie Taiwan und die EU vor den Kopf und könnte sich auch als Eigentor erweisen.

Trump is now also threatening Taiwan with imposing tariffs on the important Taiwanese chip industry, hard to believe, but true.
With the tariffs against Taiwan, Trump wants to force the Taiwanese chip manufacturer TSMC to relocate its chip production to the US.
A chip factory was already built in Arizona under Biden with billions in subsidies, and two more are to follow.
Nevertheless, 90% of chips are still manufactured in Taiwan.
The TSMC factories in Arizona are more of a symbolic policy at the moment.
Trump wants to change this and is threatening to impose tariffs on one of his most important allies. This is not entirely well thought out, as the tariffs would also hit the US economy hard, which depends on chip production in Taiwan.
Trump's aim is to relocate all US chip production to the US. Taiwan would then manufacture the chips for the rest of the world and be subject to the US' global AI chip export restrictions too.
With this strategy, the US wants to become less dependent on Taiwan, thus preparing for an invasion by China, and enforce global hegemony in AI data centers with sanctions/export restrictions and tariffs.
As reported, at least 50% of global AI computing power is to be located directly in the US, in Tier 1 and Tier 2 countries, US cloud providers should mainly control AI computing power. Tier 3 countries such as China and Russia are to be completely cut off from AI chip production.
Think diversifying chip production globally is basically a sensible strategy.
However, the new tariff threats and restricting the global distribution of AI chips in Europe also offends US allies such as Taiwan and the EU and could also prove to be an own goal.
