2023 has turned out to be a year getting certifications from all sorts of kinds in the end. Workwise I have gotten some stuff here and there that brings a diffferent direction, but also for the chill mode I have really putten the effort in getting some extra checkmarks to the name, so that maybe in the future it will end up coming in handy...
Because you just never know, might as well start getting something right?
A while back I was already writing about that I was getting some boating certificating for here in Holland which would allow you do drive a pretty decent boat in the inland waters of Holland.
Starting with that it is already quite interesting that in Holland you are allowed to rent a boat up until 15 meters of length without having any form of experience of degrees or even knowledge of the general rules on the water, which to me is absolutely ridiculous. 15 meters of length on a boat is just really long which makes you a big tanker on rampage on the water.
The combination of that with the fact that the canals in Holland are not that big, and also with having locks in there which require you to stay in a place until the water rises... I don't know, it just feels there is a lot of room for error if you don't have the slightest bit of knowledge going on there.
I surely don't believe in just getting papers for the papers, but a little bit of testing if you have some sort of understanding for the rules is sometimes not that much to ask, especially during summer time here when the waters can get quite crowded.
But that was all inland water, and now the exams of open water are the goal to work on. I must admit....this stuff is not that easy I had expected, which has mostly something to do with with factors that I had never been aware of.
At first: The magnetic north is somewhere else that the north on your map. Also..when going from a point in the ocean to another one the current from the water and the current from the wind are big factors and how do you calcutate them in there.
I guess if you grew up around water that this would all sound a lot more easy and natural to you, but for me this was the all the first time hearing it.
So I am really back in study modus to get all of this in place in the head to get it reached for when the moment is needed. And who knows when that will be. But at least the background will be there then.
