We've just had the pleasure of experiencing the ISUZU D Max XTR, we have had the vehicle seven days and been on quite a few adventures.
The model first appeared in around 2002, depending on where you are in the world depends on what trims and engines you get in the UK we get a 1.9 turbo diesel four-cylinder engine with the option of either a six speed manual or six speed auto outside the UK you can get a 3 L turbodiesel.
We have the Nav plus trim meaning we get lots of nice options as well but the XTR as it is stands on it's own. It is a great pick up and well trimmed, you get big buckety racing seats lots of premium materials throughout the cabin, there are a lot of hard plastics, with a pickup truck though, you want robustness.
Surprisingly it has manual seats but they are heated and are very comfortable, with a good driving position, the steering wheel has height adjustment but no reach but that didn't seem to make a problem for us.
Our model retails for just under £44,000 and as you'll see from the video we did quite a bit of exploring we headed up Grizedale and onto some green lanes nothing too strenuous, after all these are brand-new vehicles however with the Pirelli Scorpion tyres it is pretty unstoppable you have 4x4 on the fly meaning you can select it up to 60 miles an hour as well as descent control and an old school handbrake with hill start assist.
As for the practicality it can carry 1.1 tons on the bed and tow upto 3 1/2 tons.
The way the XTR differs to the other D Max models is essentially it has a body kit but it is twofold it looks very GTR-esqe from the front but it is not really there for the looks, that is just a happy coincidence, its primary role is protecting the paint whilst off-roading
The green adds vibrance too making it really stand out and it also highlights key points on the vehicle for example the bespoke Pedders suspension.
The D Max can be bought for around £20,000 meaning you can get single cab perfect for farming or whatever you need and at the other end of the scale the XTR costing just under £44,000 with 4 complimentary paint colours, decals and a Pioneer head unit, we also have the XTR colour edition we are reviewing later this year to look forward to.
