Hello hivers hope we are doing fine and we had a productive week.
I thought to share with you how I spent the last two days.
This week has been very hectic for me. I was forced to work under pressure and to deliver based on an agreed timeline.
I had an English fluency course to complete and report as mandated by my company by the end of Tuesday and a lot of work to do when I got this call from a friend.
Hey Gideon: a Furniture company needs an E-commerce site for their products and it is urgent can you deliver that this week?
Me: Hi Ben, I can do that. Just give me a day to get back to you. Meanwhile, send me more details on how you want the website to look.
After this conversation, I knew I would be stretched, I had a lot to do and I accepted another task just because I really needed that cash.
Few mins later my friend sent me the contact of the client who needed a website. After the calls, he told me there was another guy for the job too. We have to send him samples so he can make his choice based on our work.
I delayed my response as I needed to finish up with my course and submit a report.
The client called and I told him I would send him a sample soon. And I forgot because of the work load. Later, I got a message from the client that read, “Mr. Gideon, I can see you don’t have my time. I have given the job to the other guy. Thanks”. After reading this message, I felt bad as I hardly disappoint my clients. I had to finish up my course and the next day.
Late at night, I had to setup a subdomain and asked a friend to join me in the morning to work on this project.
My friend: This guy said someone else is working on the project; you missed it already, just let it go.
Me: Let's just write some codes for the home page and send him the link to view it.
We started, and in just a few hours, we were able to come up with something very beautiful. I sent the link to the client as told him to take a look at the home page.
Client: Wow, this is great and I want something like this. Why did you wait till now?
I explained that I couldn’t start the job because of the work load.
A few minutes later, he called me and asked me to go on with the job. I told him to compensate the other developer with a token and that I would need 40% of my pay after completing two pages of the website. He agreed, and I got to work with my friend.
The good news is that the website is done and I have collected 90% of my pay, so the weekend will be fun.😍😋
Moral of this story is “don’t throw in the towel too soon”
