I've not been a massive reader of books over the years although have found a few series and stand-alone books I liked enough to get through. Becoming what I'd call an, avid reader, has been a something that's only occurred in the last couple of years and my lovely man is the reason, the influence.
He's a man of action, an outdoorsman, and usually has so much to occupy him in that regard but he is a voracious reader as well and there's never a time he's not working through some book or another; he somehow manages to find the time and is a very fast reader so churns through a book usually weekly. I read much more slowly but, these days, no less enthusiastically.
Going to the bookshop is an event for me and I love the process of finding my next book; it's so enjoyable to read about each one, find the authors I love or take a risk on something that might not have been on my radar previously.
My local bookstore has a small cafe in it so I usually select and buy my book then start it right there and then, mostly with tea or coffee and a cupcake as well, and that time has become a valuable moment away from my general life for me, a welcome and almost luxurious break. I started doing this a little while ago and like most things we do repeatedly it's become a habit and a very valued moment which I protect fiercely.
I had just such a moment most recently on Saturday past, and am quite excited about the book I chose which is nice because on occasions I've chosen poorly.
The book itself is about relationships and how they impact upon and shape the journey our lives take and even though I'm only just getting into the first part of it I'm enjoying the writing style and story of the author who I've not read previously. I think I got my selection right this time.
