I used to be concerned about size back when I was in elementary school. Then, after an end of school year, I went to 1.69m in height and it all changed.
And I got stuck at 1.75m. Totally ok with it.
Then, I started worrying about size in other things and genetics and life kept getting my to a pont where where I can see "sure, I can work with it". Nowadays, the only size that matter to me is the bank account, which is usually almost empty. And fortunately it is. Once you get money, you want to save the world. Maybe it's just me and how I'm use to not having money and spending very little each month.
But that's not the topic of the post. I think accepting how we are is important. Accepting we could change something for better is too.
Back when I wanted to have big muscles, I went ahead and did some research. I don't want them. Muscles requiere high maintenance. I prefer strength for that matter.
Anyways, something that bothers me a little, it's the size of my hands. They are kinda small. They give me trouble with anything I usually do, but in music they could be a problem. I've said more than once that I don't like guitars. But that isn't entirely true. I like guitars. I like their sound. However, with my small hands, paying guitar is way too uncomfortable.
People have told me I'm wrong by saying that. My answer is always "did your parents dropped you on purpose while you were a child or stupidity runs in the family?" I don't think you can tell anyone not to be uncomfortable with something. First, you're not in their body to understand the discomfort. Second, that idea of rigid music teaching is obsolete. I mean having people get used to the instruments. That's why we have measures like 3/4, 2/4, 1/4, 7/8 and we could go on.
Also, I build instruments so I know about having uncomfortable instruments. It isn't good for anything. It will creating tension and resistance. You won't be able to play it properly.
If you're thinking about my small hands, here, let me help you:
So, my hands are 18cm from the middle finger to the base and 20cm stretched from thumb to pinky.
I guess they aren't so small afterall. At least, I think they are.
Since they don't show any sign of getting bigger, I'll keep the guitar playing for another time. Maybe when I make a smaller that fits my anatomy.
Besides, it's not the size, but how you use it. In this case, use them. My hand work just fine and I've been doing s lot with them lately. And they'll keep creating stuff.
Is there anything part of your body you'd like to be bigger?

Thanks a lot for reading and have a great weekend!
