Hi friends! 🌞
Hope everyone is enjoying a nice, peaceful and sunny weekend while indulging in their favourite activities. Weather here has been so beautiful these past few days that I've tried to be as active as possible so I can finally recharge and hopefully feel better.
This weekend, my mom decided we should go visit the annual Canadian tulips festival. She's the first one there every year but Sophia and I have never been. We invited Tatiana as well since Sophia was slightly annoyed with me for hanging out with my friend without her.
2022 is the first year since the start of the pandemic that the festival has gone back to welcoming its visitors in person. Below I'll share some photos we took yesterday and a little bit of the story behind one of the biggest tulip festivals in the world.
What's the first thing that pops up in your mind when you hear the word tulip? If you thought of The Netherlands, then you'd be correct. I remember back in the day (a good 10-15 years ago) when I was really into soccer, I used to love the Dutch team. We used to call them "The tulips". So it comes as no surprise that the annual tulip festival would be connected to the beautiful country of The Netherlands.
The event first took place 70 years ago, in 1953. It commemorates Canada's remarkable participation in the liberation of The Netherlands following World War II. However, it is also a celebration of Dutch Princess Margriet's birth in Ottawa. After the war, the Dutch started the beautiful tradition of presenting Canada with tulips which has become a synonym for friendship and peace.
As all flowers, tulips also have a symbolic meaning. They have been usually associated with unconditional love and are offered to people we share a deep connection with (flashback to that beautiful moment between Kate Sharma and the Viscount 🌷❤️). It is said though that the meaning behind these gorgeous flowers also varies based on their colour.
Here are some of the interpretations:
- white tulips - they symbolize forgiveness, purity and honour. They are also associated with royalty (as well as purple tulips), even though it's not one of their meanings. Take a look at these photos and tell me you don't see it. They look like shining crowns 👑
- yellow tulips - personally, my favourites! As you might've guessed, yellow tulips are linked to happiness, hope, cheerfulness - all the joyful feels. They can also bring prosperity to your home so go ahead and get some for your place! 💛
- red tulips - symbolize true, eternal, everlasting love ❤️ This is your sign to surprise your significant other with a big bouquet of red tulips 😉
All in all, we enjoyed a beautiful day out and about, surrounded by colourful tulips. If that doesn't help someone forget their worries for a bit, I don't know what else can. If you ever get a chance to go visit this festival, I encourage you to do so - it's lovely and it will bright up your days 😊
Thank you all for coming with me on this quick little journey. Would love to hear what you've done so far this weekend or what you're planning to do. I'm always up for some new weekend activity ideas 😊
Hope to see you soon! Wishing you all a great and sunny weekend ahead!✨🌷
