This weekend I wanted to take on the challenge of writing about two topics from the #weekend-engagement writing topics. Yesterday I posted about Aging Healthy responding to one of the topics. In this post will be responding to the topic of what I am doing for the weekend and why.
This weekend is mostly going to be yard work, picking up around the garage and my son’s old room and then watch some Olympics. Nothing real exiting I know, but that is what I have planned.
That said, the wife can change my plans quick, so something else, or several somethings may be added to the list before the weekend is over.
So why just yard work, picking up in the garage and the Olympics? Why not more?
It has been raining off and on for the last week here. That has made keeping up yard work abysmal. All the rain kept the grass wet, so mowing had to be put off, as did the weed trimming. We have a dry day today with the sun out, so perfect day to get this done. I just have to go slow about it as I don't whoop it on like I used to.
My youngest son just moved out this week. His new apartment can't hold all his stuff along with his roommate's stuff. So, we are going to pack up what he doesn't take and store it in the half-finished basement where his bedroom was. I plan to eventually turn it into my “man-cave”. Again, slow and steady will win the day.
Then there is watching the Olympics. I enjoy sport, especially the Olympics. I like the more traditional Olympic sports though and they have lots of track & field and swimming on this weekend. The wife likes other stuff, like underwater basket weaving and naked cactus wrestling (yes, I made those up). So sometimes we watch the silly stuff that I feel doesn’t belong in the Olympics. Not much effort involved here, plus i will get rest after the above two tasks are being completed.
It should be an uneventful weekend for me and the old lady, but at least I will get something done and still enjoy watching the “thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.”
Thanks for reading,
Joe
