Sometimes we tend to overcomplicate life, and I doubt that in the cave, the first "humans" overcomplicated their lives.
A few days ago, Galen was reflecting on the fragility of life in this post.
Today we are here, and tomorrow who knows.
That's why I ask you... have you thought about your priorities? Are they the right ones?
Today, we work harder than ever. We stay online practically all day. Interactions have shifted from physical to digital. Relationships last shorter than a phone model.
Without a doubt, this generation will be less intelligent than their parents. Evolution? More like devolution, I believe.
And while I was writing these lines, I started thinking about my priorities and summarized them as much as I could:
1. Health
Without health, it's impossible to live.
As a healthcare professional, I've noticed that from children to adults, the Cuban (and global) population has generally worsened in health.
Snacks, processed foods, and quick-preparation meals are the easiest to make. Every day, the preparation of these types of meals becomes "easier".
Foods filled with chemicals and processed ingredients threaten health but create a tremendous addiction.
Although the pandemic made the fitness lifestyle popular and there has been a significant movement worldwide, it's not enough.
But here, we’re not talking about the whole world.
Exercise, eat as healthily as possible, and of course, indulge yourself occasionally because life isn’t rigid.
That said, everything in moderation.
I don’t have much time or motivation, but I try to walk a little every day. Three times a week, I aim to hit the gym to maintain my physical ability.
Of course, I don’t always stick to it, but I don’t stop exercising because I see almost daily what happens when you neglect yourself and don’t move.
Get off the couch, put down your phone, and move!
Oh, and visit the doctor from time to time; we don’t bite :)
2. Family
If you do things right... it’s that group of people that becomes a refuge and support when we need them.
In Cuba, family goes beyond blood ties.
In other words, family also includes what we build. Friends who show up when we least expect them. People who come into our lives and change them for the better, and of course, our partners.
I believe that family is necessary for everything. But at the same time, we shouldn’t be afraid to cut ties if it becomes necessary.
I was lucky to grow up in a good family. Today, I have a lot to thank them for.
Over time and without rush, I have tried to create my own family. And although I still have a long way to go, I can say that I have the people I need close to me.
And that’s the most important thing.
3. Money
I’m not going to pretend to be romantic, and if I told you otherwise, I would be lying.
Money is as important as everything else. Depending on who you talk to, they might put it first (I’m not at that level).
Think of something you want to do, something you want to enjoy, and tell me how much money you need.
In 90% of cases, you’ll need good money, which is why it’s important.
Don’t be fooled by the saying that money can’t buy happiness.
The anxiety and insecurity of having nothing in your wallet is just a feeling that only someone who has lived it can describe. And I’m sure I would never want to experience it again.
We live in a world that evolves quickly; don’t waste time on social media and do the same. Study every day, choose something that can earn you money, and learn as much as you can. (This was the advice given to me by a wealthy person I met by chance.)
Find something you can monetize and improve every day; obsess over it and get better. The internet, when used well, can be a great ally ;)
Set goals and achieve them little by little.
Try to maximize income and minimize expenses. A good summary.
The important thing is not to obsess over money. This is a means, not the end.
Remember, money buys you time. Don’t amass money by selling your time.
And if you’ve made it this far, you’re probably wondering what a young person is doing talking about this.
You might be right, and it might seem silly, but living in a broken country and a decaying society, these three priorities keep me wanting to move forward.
Live the best you can and make life better for those you love; you never know when it will be the last day.
