There are four-weekend concepts to choose from this week, and I chose the third one on the list, which is Intelligence or Looks, and states the following question,
Would you prefer to have a higher level of intelligence and be physically unattractive or be very good-looking, but dumb? Explain your answer in at least 300 words.
We couldn't deny the fact that beautiful people are on the rise, and it has become a trend. Cosmetics, surgeries and various operations in the body just to make sure that you look pretty enough in people's eyes. However, as for me, a higher level of intelligence is my preference, even if I'm not physically unattractive. The main difference between the two choices is your value and what you can contribute to the community as an individual.
When it comes to contribution to the community and society, although you are not good-looking, if you do a certain impactful good deed, it’s not hard for people to recognize your greatness. I can imagine myself not being physically unattractive, but why do people keep following me? Or let us just say that people are following you despite your unpleasant looks. It is because they know that looks don’t have a significant effect on their lives.
A higher level of intelligence means you have a broader understanding of things. You can easily comprehend a particular book, study, or complex knowledge that most people will find difficult to apprehend. As a result, it provides benefits and perks that a dumb person cannot provide. When we say you have a higher IQ, you can work on it. You can use it to earn money, which eventually leads you to become prosperous and make a name for yourself, like blogging.
People nowadays are wise in who they follow, become friends with, and socialize with. Why would I prefer hanging out with dumb people from whom I get nothing but boasts about their beauty? In contrast, if you are surrounded by intelligent people, you can converse about a wide range of complex topics and broaden your perspective on the world. As they say, you attract people who are similar to you, so whoever you are with, people already know what exactly you are.
I believe the benefit of being intelligent is that you can outwit your enemy. You can make better schemes, plans, and choices in life. Assessing the situation and its causes and effects is what you’ll do first. Being hasty without a solid plan can lead to a higher risk of failure than some people take. Can you imagine how much you contribute to your community, or even the world, to the extent that you are intelligent? What if you are like one of the famous scientists? Though you are not blessed with good looks, you are overwhelmed with wisdom and imaginative minds.
When given the choice between high intelligence and an attractive appearance, some young people will choose the latter. But for a young adult like me, knowledge is power. It is what I can use to make myself survive in this harsh world. Accept the difference and what the heavens above have given you. Whatever intelligence you excel at, may it be linguistic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, musical, etc., what matters most is how you will use it.
Given the fact that we are all intelligent and different in appearance, what separates us from the rest is how fast you are able to grasp your gifts and to what extent you are able to use them for yourself and others. Isn’t it good if we feel useful and make a good change? I will not trade my intelligence for the beauty that is not given to me naturally just because I want to be adored and famous online. Good looks will last temporarily, but intelligence will become sharper as time goes by.
