Hello dear Hive community!
Monday was a public holiday. Pentecost. Long story short, it gave us a three-day weekend. And honestly, we’re not going to complain. Especially with the beautiful weather we had on Sunday and Monday.
With @altheana, we don’t stop moving around on weekends at the moment. And once again, it was one of those weekends where, when we got back last night, we said to ourselves we’d need another weekend just to recover from this one.
We really need to plan some weekends where we just stay put. We have a lot of work to start on the house, and it’s not going to do itself.
But on Saturday morning, we still took the time to go for a run. We’ve been back into working out for a few weeks now, and it feels really good. Just going out, breathing a little. This time, we changed our route. New loop, new sensations. It was much more difficult, but it was cool.
Right after the run, while @altheana jumped in the shower, I did a bit of weeding in the garden and watered what needed watering. I had seen that it might rain, but hey… Since we weren’t going to be there for two days, I didn’t want to take any risks.
I’d rather see the vegetables soaked than burned. Especially the more sensitive ones. Of course, you shouldn't overwater, or it’s just as bad as doing nothing. But I’m happy with this little garden growing everywhere.
We even ate our very first salad!
Once showered and after eating, we packed a few things and headed to our parents’ place near Rouen. 70 km from our place. We were invited to a childhood friend’s birthday party.
@altheana chose not to come. There were supposed to be 60 to 70 people, and she wasn’t feeling it. Too many people, too much agitation. I’m never really comfortable either in those moments, but once I’m there, it’s better.
So I went. I saw lots of friends again, including one I hadn’t seen in a few years. We drank, we laughed a lot. I got home around 4:30 AM. Nothing very reasonable, but it felt good.
Sunday morning’s wake-up hurt. But I had to deal with it. I told myself I could have gone home earlier, drunk less, danced less. But hey, nights like that don’t happen every weekend. So I had a coffee, took a shower, and off we went.
I went to pick up @altheana. We had 300 km to drive to get back to our little cabin by the pond. And we took the opportunity to have lunch at my aunt’s.
It had been about 7 weeks since I last set foot here. And it’s crazy how nature had taken over the place. The area was unrecognizable compared to the last time I came.
Even opening the gate was a struggle.
My aunt has an electric brush cutter that we borrowed. She only has one battery, so we had to optimize. We focused on what was just around the cabin.
And we also cleared the area where water from the pond can escape in case of a big storm. Just to avoid any nasty surprises. It already happened last year.
We spent two days here. Well, almost since we arrived Sunday at noon and left Monday mid-afternoon.
300 km drive back to Rouen to pick up some things and our cat from @altheana’s parents. Then another 70 km to get back home.
And that’s how this very active interlude ended. Next weekend will probably be less active, even though we’re planning a round trip to Rouen for Father’s Day.
When we got home last night, we had a nice surprise. The owner had come by over the weekend and mowed around our potato field.

Lundi, c'était férié. Pentecôte. Résultat des courses, ça nous a donné un week-end de trois jours. Et très sincèrement, on ne va pas s'en plaindre. Surtout avec le beau temps qu’on a eu dimanche et lundi.
Avec @altheana, on n’arrête pas de bouger en ce moment durant nos weekends. Et encore une fois, c’était un de ces week-ends où en rentrant hier soir, on s'est dit qu'on aurait bien besoin d’un autre week-end juste pour récupérer de celui-ci.
Il va vraiment falloir qu’on se cale des week-ends où on ne bouge pas. On a beaucoup de travaux à commencer dans la maison, et ils ne vont pas se faire tout seuls.
Mais samedi matin, on a tout de même pris le temps d’aller courir. On a repris le sport depuis quelques semaines, et ça nous fait un bien fou. Juste le fait de sortir, de respirer un peu. Cette fois, on a changé de parcours. Nouvelle boucle, nouvelles sensations. C'était beaucoup plus difficile, mais c’était cool.
Juste après la course, pendant qu’@altheana filait sous la douche, j’ai désherbé un peu le potager et arrosé ce qui avait besoin de l’être. J’avais vu qu’il allait peut-être pleuvoir, mais bon… Vu qu’on n’allait pas être là pendant deux jours, je n’ai pas pris de risque.
Je préfère voir les légumes trempés que cramés. Surtout les plus sensibles. Bien sûr, il ne faut pas trop arrosé, sinon c'est aussi néfaste que ne rien faire du tout. Mais je suis content de ce petit potager qui pousse partout.
Nous avons même mangé notre toute première salade !
Une fois douchés et après avoir mangé, on a rassemblé quelques affaires et on est partis près de Rouen, chez nos parents. À 70 km de chez nous. On était invités à l’anniversaire d’un ami d'enfance.
@altheana a préféré ne pas venir. Il devait y avoir entre 60 et 70 personnes, et elle ne le sentait pas. Trop de monde, trop d’agitation. Je ne suis jamais trop à l'aise non plus dans ce moments là, mais une fois que j'y suis, ça va mieux.
J’y suis donc allé. J’ai revu plein de potes, dont un que je n'avais pas vu depuis quelques années. On a bien bu, bien rigolé. Je suis rentré vers 4h30 du matin. Rien de très raisonnable, mais ça faisait du bien.
Le réveil du dimanche matin a piqué. Mais il fallait assumer. Je me suis dit que j’aurais pu rentrer plus tôt, moins boire, moins danser. Mais bon, des soirées comme ça, ça n’arrive pas tous les week-ends. Alors j’ai bu un café, pris une douche, et en route.
Je suis allé chercher @altheana. On avait 300 km à faire pour rejoindre notre petite cabane au bord de l’étang. Et on en a profité pour déjeuner chez ma tante.
Ça faisait environ 7 semaines que je n’avais pas mis les pieds ici. Et c’est dingue comme la végétation avait repris ses droits. L’endroit était méconnaissable en comparaison à la dernière fois où je suis venu.
Même ouvrir la barrière a été une galère.
Ma tante a une débroussailleuse électrique qu’on lui a empruntée. Elle n’a qu’une seule batterie, donc on a dû optimiser. On s’est concentrés sur ce qu’il y avait juste autour du cabanon.
Et on a aussi dégagé l’endroit où l’eau de l’étang peut s’échapper en cas de gros orage. Histoire d’éviter les mauvaises surprises. C'est déjà arrivé l'année dernière.
On a passé deux jours ici. Enfin, presque puisque nous sommes arrivés dimanche midi et repartis lundi en milieu d’après-midi.
300 km de route pour remonter jusqu’à Rouen, récupérer quelques affaires et notre chat chez les parents d’@altheana. Puis encore 70 km pour rentrer chez nous.
Et voilà comment s’est terminée cette parenthèse… plus qu’active. Le prochain weekend sera sans doute moins actif, même si nous prévoyons un aller retour à Rouen pour la fête des pères.
En rentrant chez nous hier soir, on a eu une bonne surprise. Le propriétaire était passé pendant le week-end et avait tondu autour de notre champ de pommes de terre.
