Greetings friends, welcome to my blog. On this occasion I am encouraged to participate in this Weekend-Engagement writing topics: WEEK 168, in which @galenkp brings us several alternatives, I chose the following one:
Tell us about the strangest coincidence that has happened to you
When I read this topic I quite liked it because I remembered an event that really was a great coincidence, strange but very positive. This happened in 2007, it was an election year in my country, Venezuela, I was working and I had to ask for permission because I received a notification that I had been selected as a table member, a responsibility that I could not avoid unless it was for a major cause.
The truth is that I had to attend several days of training before voting day. That election day was very hectic, especially because of the transportation issue, we table members were required to be at 4:00 am in the morning to organize everything. The military were very strict with this, however, I had to express that I could not arrive at that time because it was a danger, it was still very dark, the loneliness in the streets and the cabs did not want to enter the Urbanization where I live because it was considered a "Red Zone", that is, a danger zone. With that explanation, I was allowed to arrive at 06:00 am, it was really a relief for me, now the issue was how to return, I knew the time of entry, but not departure.
At last the day arrived, we were busy with our team functions as table members until the evening. At approximately 8:00 pm, the voting closed and they chose the table that was going to be audited, fortunately it was not ours, but even so, we had to stay until midnight to count the votes and officially announce the winner. Each one of the members of my team had a family member who would take them to their respective homes, however, no matter how much I asked for a ride no one would take me, to make matters worse, my cell phone was discharged and I had no way to communicate home. I had no choice but to look for a cab, but with all the commotion in the streets and the caravans, it became an impossible mission. I was terrified, it was past 12:00 am, cars were passing by, people were screaming from the euphoria and I was not that far from home if I went by car, but walking was a long, dark and dangerous stretch.
I resigned myself and started walking, however, I reached the most dangerous part of the street, where people are assaulted and where there is no light, besides, the loneliness was present and it felt dark. There I stood there thinking, praying for someone to pass me alone that stretch. At the moment I thought "what if I run", I was too scared, I was not able to and I started to go back, aimlessly, confused, not knowing which way to go. While I was going back, a motorcycle was coming and I thought about telling the driver to take me, to leave me only after that dark street, but I kept quiet and continued walking resigned, I felt I was losing an opportunity, but at the same time I was overcome by the uncertainty that this person could hurt me.
Suddenly, I heard the motorized man call my name and ask me what are you doing here, in the middle of the darkness I did not recognize him, it turned out that it was Ernesto, the cousin of a neighbor who lived near my house for a while, years ago they had moved, years without seeing them. I explained to him why I was in the street at that hour and he said "come on, I'll take you home". It was a great coincidence to find him in that area and at that time, especially because they had already moved away from there. The truth is that I felt very grateful, it was strange, but very positive, it helped me to get out of a somewhat dangerous situation that could have put my life at risk.
This has been my participation, grateful to @galenkp.
