Last weekend, I had my first ever pottery experience, and it was truly one for the books. We traveled almost two hours away from the city to a quiet town in Liloan, Cebu, where we found Yuson Ceramics — a humble little studio tucked in nature, perfect for getting our hands dirty and creative juices flowing.
The workshop fee was ₱500, which already allowed us to create two ceramic items. Any additional pieces cost ₱100 each, which was pretty affordable considering the hands-on experience and the joy of crafting something from scratch. The whole process was both relaxing and challenging. Shaping the clay on the wheel took patience and a bit of arm strength, but it was satisfying to see it slowly take form under my fingers.
For my pieces, I made a small vase, a round bowl, and a mug — each uniquely shaped and decorated with care. I added my initials and a flower design to each item, a small touch to make them feel more personal and special. It was fun playing with shapes and textures, even if I had to redo some pieces a few times (pottery is humbling like that).
What I loved the most was the peaceful vibe of the place. Unlike the rush of city life, Yuson Ceramics felt still and grounding — the only sounds were our laughter, spinning wheels, and occasional birds chirping. There’s something therapeutic about working with your hands, being in the moment, and letting the clay guide you.
I left the studio feeling fulfilled and inspired, with clay still under my nails and a big smile on my face. I can’t wait to go back once the pieces are fired and glazed. Hopefully, they turn out just as I imagined — or at least close enough to bring home a memory molded by hand and heart.
That's it for today's blog. See you in my next one!
Sending some love and light
