There are a lot of things I would like to invest more time in, and I use the word invest instead of spending or wasting because I believe that time is never wasted, that even doing nothing can achieve something, even if it's resting, the only way that time can really be wasted is doing things that harm or hurt others or ourselves, doing evil would say a superhero character.
I would like to have more time to study, to cook delicious and varied dishes, to exercise, to read a book for pleasure or watch a complete series on Netflix in one sitting, but what I would really like to do the most is spending more time with my only three-year-old daughter, even being able to do all the activities that I described at the beginning of this paragraph with her, and much more. I dream of being able to go to the beach much more often, taking advantage of the fact that we live on a beautiful Island, spending long periods of time playing their favorite games, of which there are many: the house, running after it, soccer, drawing, building towers, among many others. cool and witty things kids his age do.
But sometimes dreams and wishes collide with reality; Mine is being a single mother, who lives in one of the countries with the highest inflation in Latin America, and who receives some of the lowest salaries in the world. To be able to overcome this situation moderately I have four jobs. The first and the one I enjoy doing the most is giving film classes first thing in the morning at the university of arts in my city, the university is public and as you well know in countries in crisis education is never a priority, so when the minimum monthly salary established by the government is $5, earning $8 is fine for a university professor (irony).
In my second job I give the Documentary Photography workshop in an Arts Center on Saturday mornings, 80% of the participants are generally university students, therefore I do it at a very supportive price, it is also something that love to do. There are two levels, the basic and the advanced, between finishing the second and starting the first again, a couple of weeks pass, it's not really a free time for me because I have to go to my third job. I am in charge of an art and design store of Venezuelan artists, and especially from Margarita, I work there 5 days a week from mid-morning to late afternoon. It's a beautiful place that also doubles as an art gallery, it has really incredible works, paintings, sculptures, photographs and designer objects, it's not exactly the place where I can exploit my knowledge of film and photography but at least I'm surrounded by art and that makes me happy, I have also learned about the value and care of works of art, some other thing about sales and in quiet moments I have time to organize and prepare some things from the university and school classes workshop.
In the two days off that I have left I can't afford to rest, among the three jobs that I told you about I barely get to 30% of the basic basket, so I got the opportunity to take care of the children of an acquaintance and from time to time when the opportunity presents itself to fix up apartments that have been vacant for a long time and the owner wants to rent or sell them, so I leave them as good as new.
After telling you all this, we return to the initial topic: wanting to spend more time with my daughter. I am grateful for at least being able to get home at the beginning of the night, to be able to cook her dinner myself, play or talk for a little while with her, give her a bath and fall asleep together. For now we are living in a relative's house while I earn enough money to move into our space, he also helps me take care of my daughter while I work, I pay him to do it and I know that my daughter is in good hands. I have read in many places that having a working mother is an excellent example for daughters, that it doesn't matter if you don't spend a lot of time with your children, that what really matters is the quality of that time, but I still miss her infinitely during the day , and I always think about the way we can go out together to do really fun things. Believe me that I am working hard to achieve it, to have incredible moments just for us, to have the life that we dream of and that we deserve.
