Hello everyone.
This weekend I participate in the initiative to write on the topic of:
A single photo
Take a single photo, no more than one, in your city/town/village/location of something you think is beautiful and you might think we'll do that too. Explain what it is and why you think it's beautiful in a post of 300 words or more. The photo must be one that you have taken yourself! Remember, focus on the beauty, not some old bullshit
This photograph is of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, also known as La Catedral de Margarita, which is located on Plaza Luisa Cáceres de Arismendi, in the city of La Asunción, which is the capital of the state where I live, officially It is the state of Nueva Esparta, an island better known as Isla de Margarita in Venezuela.
Despite not being a practicing Catholic, nor visiting the church to attend mass, I love this Cathedral, I find its history magnificent and extremely interesting, it was the second church built in the entire country in the year 1571. Imagine the number of souls who have entered that enclosure to find refuge in these almost five hundred years, all the times that those walls and those wooden benches heard words of joy, sadness or pain, pleas, thanks, laughter or tears, baptisms to the born enclosures, weddings to lovers and masses for the dead; It just seems extraordinary to me.
That architecture that now seems very simple or modest is the most spectacular of all, it is even small if compared to the great cathedrals of the world, but it is ours, it is unique and it is the one that houses stories, myths and legends that they give life to the cultural fabric of my city. I would like to highlight especially that La Asunción was a very important area in the fight for the independence of my country Venezuela, from its foundation and the construction of its own history it was an extremely important city, for this reason it was constantly attacked by legions of pirates and reckless privateers.
I was not born on the Island of Margarita, I am actually from Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, I came to live on the island several years ago. I have lived in several areas here and at first I saw La Asunción as a distant place where only political and official affairs happened because it was the capital, but since last year I have seen it with different eyes. I started teaching at the University of Arts, which is precisely in La Asunción, a few blocks from the historic center. I began to get to know its rich history much better, to realize that it is the cultural hub of the state, that the most interesting stories of the construction and life of the state lie there, that you can find the best art galleries, cultural centers, museums, and theaters. and that by force has maintained its colonial architecture making it a unique and special place.
For several months I have lived practically all my life in this city, and more specifically in the historic center, since in addition to teaching at the university, which is a few streets away, I also teach documentary photography in the center of arts that is right in front of the Cathedral, and at this moment five more students are doing a job that will culminate in the recording of the most important aspects of La Asunción. Last but not least, I would like to tell you that in this area there is incredible nature, many mountains and protected hills that are national parks. For all this I think it is extremely beautiful.
Thank you for joining me, visiting my blog, reading and supporting me. Have a wonderful day filled with lots of success and good energy!
