Okay, I’ll admit it, I was an idiot for a second. Not in a massive, world-ending way, but in one of those “you really should have known better” kind of moments.
So here’s what happened.
I had this plan to write a simple weekend experience post on Hive. You know, something light, fun, just to stay consistent and keep up engagement. Nothing too serious. But then my cousin, who has all the timing in the world, showed up with a drawing he’d been working on and asked for my “help.” Not advice. Help. As in, “can you fix this part?” and “what do you think about adding this detail here?” Kind of help that eats up minutes, not hours.
And I, being the supportive cousin I try to be, got sucked in. Before I knew it, I was involved in the post he was supposed to be doing by helping him with the drawing in his post, meanwhile I had my own to attend to.
It wasn’t even that he forced me into it. I just wanted to string him along, keep him encouraged, you know? I like seeing him interested in something creative. But still, the reality is, I gave away the time I had set aside for myself and ended up getting in a bit of a situation.
Now I’m here reflecting like: why didn’t I just draw a line? Why didn’t I say, “Bro, you've got to handle your own stuff yourself”
Maybe it’s just part of growing up, realizing that good intentions don’t always lead to the best decisions. Next time, I’ll still be there for him, but not at the cost of my own momentum. We live and learn.
So yeah, for that moment, I was an idiot. But at least I’m a self-aware one, and I am apologizing for my stupid act in the weekend experience, I apologize.
Thanks for your understanding.
