Weekend Engagement Prompt
We all like to spend extra time with our pets over the weekend - Introduce us to your pet and tell us something about it. Someone else's pet will work if you don't have one but remember to use your own photos.
Currently, I don't have any pets. But I think this prompt could be something I needed, since I rarely get the chance to sit and reflect on how much I miss my cat. It's been almost exactly five years since I lost Ella, a.k.a. Kitty. She had about a million nicknames and I rarely called her by her name.
Around 2008, I started renting a my own one-bedroom in college and decided that I wanted a cat. This was during the time when Craigslist was at it's peak, and I responded to an ad for a free cat. I never realized how much this free cat would forever be in my heart. She was about seven years old when I adopted her. She was chubby and personable, with the loyalty of a dog. She followed me everywhere and would even wait outside for me in the hallway while I used the bathroom. She was with me throughout the ups-and-downs of my twenties and followed along as I wandered about, trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life.
She passed away while I was pregnant, so Gabby never got the chance to meet her. I've been so busy since having Gabby, and I feel guilty for not thinking about Kitty enough. That's why it was good to see this weekend prompt -- it prompted me to bring out this scrapbook of Kitty that I created in my twenties.
I am more of a cat person than a dog person, but it doesn't mean that I dislike dogs. It just means I prefer cats. I think about getting another cat once we are settled into a new place. I research breeds that I want, such as Scottish Fold, Oriental Shorthair, and Sphynx. Then again, I love cat cafes and would be happy to take a rescue home, too.
