I missed posting on Friday and Saturday so goodbye to that weekly authors badge 😐.
Regardless I knew I had go make a post today to @galenkp 's weekend engagement topics (for if I missed today too, I may go into a no posting trend again 😭)
This is a post I've been building for the #leofinance community but then I saw the topics for this weekend and I knew this was perfect ;
Gold and Silver
Do you stack metals? Share one or two of your favourite, unusual or rare pieces and tell us about them. Write a post of 300+ words and the photos must be your own.
Well Silver and Gold I have none 😆, but this month I received something totally awesome, rare and metallic 😃✨
A Piggy Bank 🐷
A gift from my aunt, she claims to have gotten it from my old late Grandma's House.
I collected this treasure chest and I heard a clink. (Surely she didn't, I thought to myself.)
Giving it a good shake again and I knew she did, there were coins inside 😃💰
I rushed to open the bank from it's plug under it's belly and I brought out my treasure.
(From now on, I have to apologize for the terrible Camera quality.)
Coinssss, although they were a bit little in number, for a country whose monetary denominations is now only on notes. It would take a while before a 20 century kid holds this much coins.
I recognized 4 of the coins there as they were brought home by my parents when they went for a vacation in England.
- 50 Cent
- 20 pence (2)
- 1 Penny
Yet ironically, the coins that I knew next to nothing about are the ones that are from my own country.
1 Naira
&
50 Kobo
These are coins that are well gone from our currency. With the amount of inflation ongoing, a child of 16 or 17 would be wowed (as I am) seeing such coins in a nice condition.
The 1 Naira coin, is rounded by steel with bronze in the center, "Bimetallic" they call it. It's got some nice details that my camera blatantly refused to catch.
On the front, we have a Nation hero Herbert Macaulay, with his moustache, Birth and Death Date and the monetary value In words and numbers.
At the back, the major detail there is our proud coat of arms; the sheild with the Rivers Niger and Benue coming together to form a "Y" shape, our horses at each side of the shield then the eagle on top 🦅.
The 50 Kobo coin made of nickel has just the cornstalk 🌽 and the 50 naira written in figures and words but the details on it are also pretty good, as they show the individual corn seed on the cob ✨
The back of the coin has the same coat of arms design as the 1 Naira coin
I went online immediately to see how much said coins are worth now and well I was impressed 😃.
Looking back in the day, these coins were actually quite a reasonable sum of money. With the 1 Naira being the same value as 2$. (Oh how far we've fallen 😭😭)
Now they're just nice pieces to view as a coin collector (or a budding one as myself 😗)
Here's to Hoping they become rarer and then they'll really be worth something ✨😃
HAVE A LOVELY WEEKEND 🎊
