Another Saturday like all others, but since it got to a wild 23°C (73°F), it was officially warm enough to be considered the first summer day of the season. That's right, 23°C counts as a scorcher in Finland. I actually don't mind it, because I have been wearing a T-shirt since February to acclimatise. This means that I have been warm, even when it was still snowing.
People wear too much clothing.
They are doing themselves a disservice.
Sure, there are times when it makes sense to ensure one is always warm, like when out walking on the lake mid-winter. But when it is 15-20 degrees, being a little bit uncomfortable, a little bit cool, isn't going to cause frostbite, and it means that even if the summer is not that warm, it feels warm enough. It is the same heading into winter, where after warm days the temperature drops, people put on jackets, even though three months earlier in the spring, the same temperature had them in a T-shirt.
People condition themselves to be overly sensitive to change.

And obviously this doesn't just happen with the temperature, but it is a good analogy to use to perhaps highlight how we have created a culture of overly sensitive people, who are triggered and react to even a slight variation away from expectations. The level of entitlement in the world where many people just assume that everything should go their way is incredible.
This was the best photo of me.
Exactly what I was thinking.
Our annual round of minigolf went as expected, with my wife winning by a wide margin, and Smallsteps coming in last. However, the gap to her and I is rapidly closing an probably by next year, it will be me holding the wooden spoon in third position. We invited some friends to join and they had agreed, but flaked this morning.
Their loss.
We went for pizza after which was ridiculously expensive and then bought some ice creams from the supermarket on the way home, and ate them in our garden. Like normal, I would have been happy to skip paying for a meal, as there is just nowhere near the value for the cost these days - and that just leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.
Smallsteps enjoyed her food at least though.
Tomorrow it is going to be a little warmer per the forecast, so we might do as the Finns say and "lose our winter coats" by going for our first lake swim of the season. Even if the air is warm though, the lakes take a long time to warm up and I am expecting the water to be unkind to my man bits and leave me a little further below average.
Oh! That is what they mean by below average temperatures?
It all clicks into place.
