Hello The Weekend Lovers, I am very happy to meet again with friends in The Weekend community, even though we meet through writing, but I am happy to be able to read creative ideas that can open my mind about a better world. my post today to follow the challenge in The Weekend community hosted by @galenkp.
The theme I will choose this week is
Helping others achieve
Tell us how you have helped someone other than your family members achieve their major goal. Are you a teacher, coach, friend, counsellor, mentor or work-colleague that has helped someone achieve their major goal? Talk about the concepts, success and failure and how you capitalised on, or mitigated, them.
Preface
I am a science teacher at a junior high school in Indonesia, but I enjoy listening to teenagers who are starting to grow up telling stories about the problems of their teenage life. In every school there is usually a counseling guidance teacher who will help children (students) when they face problems. Because I had an internship at a consulting bureau when I was in college, so I could understand the misbehavior of my students, the counseling guidance teacher where I teach also often asks me for help to solve the problems of these students, they believe that I have a "unique way" to solve this problem, help students with problems.
During my time as a teacher, I have helped many students to find their identity so that they can help themselves. The way I help students with problems is "unique" because I don't blame anything for the actions of "naughty children", but I lead their thoughts, so that they can realize the wrong things they have done such as smoking at school.
Problems that often occur
some of the problems that are often faced by children their age (12 years - 16 years) are :
1.family problem
most problematic students usually come from broken families, where their parents are divorced and they live with grandmothers or other families, this is what causes children to become out of control, grandmothers or other families are unable to direct these children, children this doesn't live up to their saying, "they're not my parents and they don't have the right to control my life", thought these kids, so kids from broken families tend to get into trouble at school.
2.wrong association
many children who were originally good when they were in 7th grade, turn into "wild students" when they go to the next class, this is due to their wrong association, parents do not supervise the children's socializing while at home, so that when the children are at school create problems such as skipping school, smoking and even stealing. When their parents are called to school, usually their parents are very surprised and don't expect these children to cause problems at school, parents only know that their child is a good child and will not cause problems.
3.looking for attention
there are several cases that I have handled which are considered "unique" because children deliberately seek trouble so that I call them, they want attention, advice or punishment for their mistakes, they say their parents are busy working so they feel "neglected", they deliberately make problem to attract the attention of me, the other teachers and their parents.
4.economy problem
children who come from financially disadvantaged families, usually will work after school, this causes them to pay less attention to their lessons at school, some even have to help their parents work late at night so that when they are at school, they are sleepy and sleepy. unable to attend class. There are also children who are able to finish school while working until they graduate with unsatisfactory academic scores, but more of them cannot finish their education in junior high school because they are tempted by the amount of money they receive, they choose to work at a very young age and leave school.
5.identity and confidence crisis
this problem is usually experienced by female students, they feel "low self-esteem" with their appearance, they feel not accepted by their environment, so many of these girls do not focus on studying and are busy taking care of their appearance, they think that a good appearance is a major compared to studying.
Problem solving
all children who have problems actually because they lack attention and lack of love from the people around them. Some of the things I do to help children solve their problems are :
1.take a personal approach
the first thing i usually do is to take a personal approach, children have to believe that we can hold their secret so they can tell all their problems and believe that we can help them, i am not only a teacher for them but i am their best friend they can be trusted to listen to their complaints, usually this method always works.
2.using an eye agent
the next way I do is ask friends for help from students with problems, I use "spy agents" to help me monitor students with problems. This method has proven to be effective when troubled students start lying to cover up their mistakes, but we must be careful that the "spy agents" we assign don't get caught and stay on our side.
3.establish communication with family / guardians of students
the next way I do is establish communication with their family members so that we can always know if these children are having problems, even though there are also family members who don't care about the problems faced by these children, at least we don't lose communication with these problematic students.
4.help find a decent job
I once had several students who came from poor families and did not have a father, so that my students became the backbone of the family. I ask the parents/guardians of other students who have employment opportunities to provide additional work for the student, but with an agreement that the children only work until the afternoon so that they can complete their homework.
5.cover the disgrace
one of the rules at school is that students cannot get pregnant while attending school, if this is known by the school then this student will be expelled from school. I once faced a dilemma when I found out that one of my students was pregnant, even though it only took 3 months to graduate. I found out about this student's pregnancy from a close friend who told me, if I complained about this problem to another teacher, this student would definitely be expelled from school, but if I didn't complain about this problem, it meant I was covering up this student's disgrace. I decided to "pretend I don't know", because finding a job is very difficult, especially without a diploma, I hope my "little favor" can help her to get a junior high school diploma, I'm thinking of helping her because no one will be harmed if I help this student "rice has become porridge, it's up to us to enjoy this porridge. with what side dish", I mean just let the problems that have occurred, the most important thing is how we deal with the problems that have occurred.
All my students who have had problems at school and have received "little help" from me until now keep in touch with me and they thank me for my concern for them. I am not the best teacher for them but I am always there when they need my help, I believe sincerity will bring us good, so I try to do good without discriminating against their ethnicity, religion and social status.
that's my post for this week's challenge, greetings.
