When you have some tough time at work, or feel totally drained for some other reason, you can decide to sit down and complain about your pathetic life, or you try to find a way to unwind and make things better. This can be anything that is good for you, and brings you in a more positive state of mind. Maybe you like to listen to music, do yoga, read a book or dance. It is up to you to try different things to find out what works for you. One of the best ways to unwind for me, is a Nature Photography Walk
When you are looking around, you have more of an eye for the little things around you, like these snow crystals! I wish the shot would be a little bit sharper, but it is amazing what a detail a camera can show us!
When I need some time to unwindI love to walk and enjoy nature.
Walking is a great way to relax and stretch your body, let the blood flow and improve your mood. It is not new that walking makes us healthier and relaxed, especially when you go for that walk into nature.
To make it even better, I love to take out my camera. Even without trying, it makes me more focused on the things around me, instead of dreaming away in thoughts and struggles of life. I don't put pressure on taking nice shots, I just photograph what I find interesting, but it trains my eye and mind to be more aware of the beauty around me. I somehow only feel like taking photographs in nature, or portrait pictures. I am for some strange reason not so into city photography. That's why all the pictures in this post are nature shots.
The angle of the photograph makes the curved road look even more tempting to follow
When photographing, I ain't just looking for pretty things, I become more aware of the beautiful light in my environment
During these kinds of walks, I free my mind of thoughts about the future and the past and bring myself totally to the present. I don't need to think about rude people at work, how I am going to make hard decisions about my future or how I am ever going to be able to buy a house. No, I just look through my lens, hunting for some beautiful angles, while feeling relaxed, feeling like it is just me and a beautiful world.
Tulips are one of the most beautiful things you can find in Holland
Or show some appreciation for some flowers on the way, as it is spring now
The second part of the same process is editing my pictures, to make them get that extra touch. I usually make myself a nice hot tea, some snack while I am making myself comfortable on the couch. The pictures are usually the most beautiful and impressive things I have seen on the way, or just details I really liked. Good things my camera showed me, things I might not have noticed with such detail if I wouldn't have seen them during a photo walk.
