So, part of this prompt was whether or not I would choose to be in a zombie apocalypse or the only living person on the planet. I think if I was the only living person on the planet, it would be a rather simple existence with very little challenges because I would be able to pick up whatever resources there are and then build a life for myself and live that way.
But being the only living person on the planet would mean the sad extinction of the human race as well as complete and utter boredom eventually for not really having anything to do. Although there might be wild animals or natural phenomena like weather and natural disasters, not having other human beings would mean a lack of challenge.
Surviving in the Zombie Apocalypse: Why Would I Go There?
I chose to go for a zombie apocalypse instead of the easy route. One would think that this would be a terrifying prospect, but being sort of like an expert of many different zombie apocalypse movies and games, I kind of feel that this would be a preferable outcome. I wouldn't be the only person alive in the world, which means that there's a chance of the human race succeeding. I think that the world is pretty messed up as it is already.
To be broken out of the boring day-to-day things and the global economy that seems to be in a constant downward spiral except for the elite one percent at the top of the economy, living in a zombie apocalypse would mean a bit of a reset. Sure, governments would break down, possibly the power grid and internet and things like that as well. But I carry with me quite a lot of handy knowledge, which means that with the resources just lying around, I would be able to create my own world.
Economic Collapse
The world is in a position where the global elite, the one percent earners, are getting more and more money, and everybody else seems to be getting less and less money. And the sum total value of human hours is worth less and less unless you are part of that global elite.
A zombie apocalypse would solve that problem because your billions will not matter, and it will be all about managing resources that are at your disposal within reach. Without reaching for the global labor in a very large area, each person or each community would be focused on their immediate surroundings.
The First 48 Hours
Without turning this into an absolute thesis, because I could probably ramble on about this topic for a very long time, the first forty-eight hours of survival is probably the most crucial.
The decisions that you make of how to protect yourself and your family and how to analyze and assess what sort of zombie apocalypse you're in will probably determine whether or not it is a survivable situation or not.
In the end of the day, it'll be survival of not only the fittest but the smartest and those who have the skills necessary to rebuild society as we need it to be in a post-apocalypse situation.
I'm gonna leave it there because, as I say, I could possibly carry on about this topic for a very long time, and I don't want to make it seem that I'm eager for the world to end in this way. But it is a funny concept, which is fun to think about when you are looking at the movies and comparing what the characters do to what you would do yourself.
