Prologue
Since @thejedo made his post about how to start working land, I was wondering how profitable it actually was. He got an amazing deal with his GF Grum Flamblade for 2,3 DEC/BCX/day. Currently, the lowest price is at 6,67 DEC/BCX/DAY for a Chaos Legion Legendary GF - but that still generates profit, as you will see below.
So, I jumped into Excel yet again. After trying to do it the most complicated possible way, with ^2 and ^0,5 and all that stuff, I resigned from being smart and took the shortcut. First come the tables with all the data, then some graphics.
Wished profit: 1 DEC/Day (no matter how many BCX!)
Grain consumption is taken into account.
Resource prices are taken out of Splinterlands and include the 10% fee in order to sell for DEC.
Terrain bonus is not taken into account! If you do it right, you'll get even more out of your rentals. Read more about it here by clicking here.
DEC for staking is not taken into account.
I uploaded some of the data here: Click me for the Google Spreadsheet
No, this has nothing to do with LPE, it's completely separate and focused only on ROI at current prices.
Results
I'm not going to do a nice table here. It's been enough work to just do that in excel, and C&P doesn't work - it creates an image anyway.
Maxed Cards
You can read it like this: To earn 1 DEC/Day with Chaos Legion common cards, having it working on a Grain farm, you can't pay more than 0,51 DEC/Day. So, this is impossible.
It's not in this table, but if you rent a Max Common CL card for 1 DEC/Day, you make 0,51 DEC profit per day.
To make 1 DEC/Day in Wood or Iron by renting a Beta Rare GF, you can pay around 50 DEC/Day to get there - but if you put it on a Stone plot, you can pay up to 98 DEC/Day per maxed out card.
Maximum Price per BCX
Of course, not every card is available as a maxed out card, so it's useful to know what the maximum price to pay per BCX/CC is. I think they switched BCX to CC now. Guess it means Card Copies?
It's basically just the former table, divided by the amount of CC it takes to get a Max copy. For example, Common CL Card: 0,51 / 400 CC = 0,0013 DEC/CC/Day.
I left some extra numbers after the comma for this one. As it is a fraction of the total, it's not bound to 1 DEC/Day profit anymore:
Way to read: To make profit by renting a Legendary Chaos Legion GF to stake for Grain, you can not pay more than 3,53 DEC/CC.
In that case, as the card has 4 CC at max, the profit per CC would be 0,25 DEC/CC/Day. For a CL common it would be 1/400 - but still a profit!
Graphics
It's always fun to compare. I didn't have time to get into the professional tools, so here's what Excel did for me.
The Editions
No surprise here, as this one is tied to PP, and those have a fixed multiplier. But it helps to see just how much more efficient Alpha Cards are.
The Resources
We all know that, but it's still interesting to see how much Stone dominates until now. Also, that there's barely a difference between producing Wood and Iron.
Third observation - the grain is higher than expected. I'm not sure if I made a mistake there, or if it's really off peg at them moment.
The Reality
I took out the Untamed Legendary GF here, as it was at 350 DEC/day and made the whole chart unreadable. The comparison is with Untamed Edition only, as it was the best data available in my opinion.
While Stone makes profit on almost all available cards now (except Epic and Legendary GF), most of the others struggle. By the way, Wood is there, but buried under Iron as they're so close due to current prices.
Wood and Iron are still easier to make profit with than grain, which doesn't even make the cut on some Regular Foils - those have the best ROI.
Conclusion
Renting can be a great addition for Land, but the price has to be right. I think this table can help to get an idea of when it makes sense to look deeper into it.
As the prices of resources fluctuate, it's important to keep that updated. I hope I configured the Google Sheet in a way that everybody can download the math terms and create their own spreadsheet.
THIS IS 10th OF JUNE 2025! Just in case...
