I've been playing a lot of Frontier Mode recently when I have the time. I think I prefer it over Ranked Mode due to the limited choices of units. This make the battlefield fair and make me use of my game knowledge a lot.
Frontier Mode looks really good for starters and beginners. It's a good way to test your game knowledge and earn a few cards on the way as well. I'll be playing this mode instead for a while since I liked it. I hope the devs will add more units in the future for Frontier Mode but not too much that it would be another Modern Ranked.
Fire

I want to max my number of units for this battle so I relied on passive units such as Scales of Justice. The enemy's lineup is a mess as well which worked to my advantage. I was able to obtain a win after round 6 after my first two units dying. Since Fire element has a lot of melee units, I can keep attacking despite the death of my tanks.
Element Summary:
The fire element units have good speed. They have a lot of units with abilities that are good with attacking back rows through Sneak and Opportunity. The only downside is they mostly have melee units.
Best Modifier to Use: Up Close & Personal
Even though other elements have better melee units in terms of damage, the high speed units of Fire Element means they can attack first and hit more consistently. Usually, your enemy moves after all of your unit had their turn eliminating one or two of them before they even move.
Worst Modifier to Use: Reverse Speed
In this rule, the higher the speed, the worst it gets because a lot of fire units have high speed. Not only your units will miss a lot in this rule but also, your enemies would attack first leaving your team vulnerable.
Earth
https://splinterlands.com/battle/sl_d627511194a60864a14b39cf722c9514
I was hesitating if I should use Water element because Marlai Singariel can improve the unit's magic attacks but I realized they have low health and with Target Practice, the range and magic attack units will be prioritized first. With this decision, I pivoted back to Earth and Aurelia giving me an advantage in health.
Element Summary:
Earth Element's units has the highest range attacks in the game. Their units have naturally high health which is good for long games. This element is easy to use and good for beginners but it's not as strong as other elements once you learn the basics.
Best Modifier to Use: Noxious Fumes
Earth Element has Time Bandit which can Cleanse the Poison from Noxious Fumes rule and Dread Tafarian that has Heal that can heal any damage he get per round including Poison. These two are your heart and soul during Noxious Fumes rule so make sure you have mana to include both of them when playing in this rule.
Worst Modifier to Use: Healed Out
Dread Tafarian's strength is Heal. It has low damage and decent health but the Heal makes out for it. Healed Out rule cannot be cleansed as well so you have no work around.
Water
https://splinterlands.com/battle/sl_e8b5add22ac454ace7c3d0e5a3b0f6ff
In this battle, you should not do what my opponents did. Spamming melee units are the one thing you should never do in a Briar Patch rule. The Thorns damage can quickly creep up if kept unnoticed and this is the reason why my enemy lost this battle.
Element Summary:
Water Element has very good units with good magic attacks. The extra magic attack from Marlai Singariel reminds you of how offensive Obsidian was but the difference is that the new magic attacks in water have generally low health. If you can protect them properly, they can help you but if not, they'll just die before they can unleash their attacks.
Best Modifier to Use: Briar Patch
Because you use mostly magic attacks, they will be unaffected by Thorns from Briar Patch rule. It also works in your favor when you have archon Marlai Singariel's +1 magic attack to increase your team's damage.
Worst Modifier to Use: Target Practice
The magic attack units have usually low health and since your tanks cannot take the attacks and get bypassed by the Snipe ability, your magic attack units will just fall early before they can act. If you still plan to use Water Element in this rule, make sure you have someone to take the damage from opposing player's magic and range attacks.
Life
https://splinterlands.com/battle/sl_386c3eff2930857777ef467eff95d90e
In this battle, I cannot use magic attacks because of Counterspell. I don't want to take any counters when my units attack the enemy. Born Again rule also benefits me having armored units which is why I used Incessant Sage for this battle.
Element Summary:
Life Element is good against melee and range units because of the archon, Incessant Sage, that gives +1 armor. That 1 armor can extend the life of your units by 1 round against melee and range attackers. Life Element also has a lot of strong units but they also costs a lot of mana so only choose what you need.
Best Modifier to use: Born Again
In Born Again rule, each unit gets revived once per death. Because the revived units gets all armor including the one given by Incessant Sage, it's common sense to prioritize Life Element with this archon while playing in this rule.
Worst Modifier to use: Briar Patch
Most of strong units in this element are melee units which will take damage from Briar Patch's Thorns. While this can still work because of that extra armor, it would be bad if you rely on melee units in this rule.
Death
https://splinterlands.com/battle/sl_533251641bcbece020862d8a6dd13346
In this battle, I really wanted to use Nim Guard Captain but due to Target Practice rule, the enemy's magic attacks will just avoid him. Instead, I used a less mana unit to fill my frontline and use another tank behind him, preferably someone that does not have melee attack to block the incoming Snipes. This worked in my favor giving me the win for this battle.
Element Summary:
Death has good melee and magic attack units. It can deal with a lot of enemy compositions. If you can practice and learn proper positioning, you can shine with this element.
Best Modifier to use: Equalizer
Sorrow Harvester, Death Element's strongest unit, only has 3 health. Playing on Equalizer rule means increasing the chance this unit will survive and that means increasing your chances of winning.
Worst Modifier to use: Equal Opportunity
To me, this is the contrast of Equalizer rule. This rule gives everyone Opportunity which makes them target the lowest health units first. This means Sorrow Harvester will be on the chopping block earlier and if she dies, it would reduce your win rate by a lot.
