Jane and Williams became childhood friends. Jane's parents work as business partners in a store not too far from their house but William's parents are workers in a private company.
The two families lived in the same compound but in a different apartments. They have a two-bedroom flat adjacent to each other. They had their first encounter with William's parents when they had to relocate from their former apartment.
Williams was in the garage playing with his bicycle when he saw Jane drop from a bike with her mom. A few minutes later, the truck appeared.
He stood beside his bike and watched as the offloading was completed.
He was partly staring at Jane, a part of his heart felt that he had seen a playmate and wouldn't be the only one running around the surroundings.
A few days later, Jane's Mum met with William's mum and they discussed the new environment and some other basic things they would need as a new tenant in the area.
After the discussion, Williams' Mum was about to turn back to her apartment holding Williams's hands before she got her attention again.
Oh! Sorry, Ma! Less I forgot. Please which school can I enroll my daughter in? A standard one. Please. Jane's mother requested politely.
Hmm. You can enroll her in the Kings and Queen schools. That’s where my boy attends. She held William's hand and fixed her fingers on his.
Thank you, Ma. Jane's mother responded as they both got back into their apartments.
Getting to hear this, Williams was so happy from within. He was overwhelmed with joy. He asked his Mum.
Mum! Would Jane be going to school with us by car?
His Mum chuckled, It depends on her parents' decision, my boy.
Williams smiled as he rested his head on his mum’s shoulder.
Time flies, and Williams and Jane get to know each other well. Luckily for both of them, they were enrolled in the same class. The school was sectioned from A to C for each level. And for their level, Jane was lucky to be in the same class as Williams.
This must have brought their bond stronger. After Jane got dressed in the morning she would stop by Williams's apartment and go to school together.
Their friendship grew stronger and went beyond the school premises. They are always together at home, do their assignments together, and most of the time ride bicycles around the compound.
After six years of being together, William's dad got a transfer from his place of work to a state far away from their present location. To Williams, he never knew much, not until it was a week before their relocation. William's Mum told him about their relocation and how he would have to leave his present school for another.
The news shocked him and he begged his mum not to leave. But the decision has been made already.
Both children started to drift apart gradually trying to embrace each other’s absence.
Jane was sad and got sick for a few days upon hearing that Williams would be leaving anytime soon. She never thought it would be so early. They still had a lot to do together, though they were about to round up their studies in college. Just three more years.
The nightmare became a reality. Jane had to live on without her best friend, the same goes for Williams too.
THREE YEARS LATER
Jane sat for her entrance examination into the higher institution. She didn’t like mathematics from the onset, but Williams was responsible for putting her through till she had an interest in it. Mathematics finally became her favorite subject.
She decided to go study accounting at the institution, intending to grow her parent's business after she became a graduate. She was so happy doing this and would always be grateful for meeting with Williams.
She applied to a federal university in a distant state. Her parents were bothered about her decision but she stood firm on her path. Her parents wanted her to study at a private university close to them.
Williams on the other side was sent abroad to complete his study. He already knew there is no way he would meet with Jane ever again because Jane's parents would not think of sending their daughter abroad to study and she is the only daughter of her parents.
Years passed, and both of them were moving further with their academics in different parts of the world. Jane is in a public institution and Williams is far abroad.
One thing that got specific about them was that since they departed from each other none of them ever got into any relationship. They still have each other's hearts. But only time can tell because after Jane completes her study her parents would get her married to someone.
Jane did her best to study hard and when she got to her final year, her department had to present someone for the interstate university competition on mathematics. She won at the departmental level and was selected to represent the institution at the state level.
She made an outstanding performance and won at the state level again. Her parents were so proud of her.
It’s time for Jane to represent her country abroad. Her parents had no option but to assist her and make her be who she wanted to be. They backed her up and also supported her in prayers.
Jane was finally out of the county, it was an amazing experience for her and she was so happy doing what she loves. She got a lot of memories of William as she felt the bond between them again like it was then.
But she never thought of him studying abroad. She tried to stop her heart from diverting.
She was in the library studying for the upcoming competition. She had to use the bookshelves, while she glanced through the row of mathematics textbooks, she checked it to the edge of the shelf. She was about to turn around to see the next set of books at the back. She stepped on someone who was also trying to do the same thing.
Ooh! Sorry! Am so sorry! Jane apologized as she tried to pick up the book that fell off her hands.
After picking up the books, she glanced at the person in front of her, he was a handsome man. His looks were so bright and his face looked familiar to her.
The guy took off his glasses and stared at Jane, he was a little confused.
He called out her name silently; Jane?? Jane!!!. Looking so surprised 😯.
Jane's heart raced faster, she recognized him and immediately hugged him. She was so excited to see Williams again after a very long time. The two friends had become grown-ups.
Jane and Williams went somewhere and discussed how their lives had been up till the present time, they made the discussion minimal and talked about their future too. While they were both reading in preparation for the competition, Williams took the opportunity and made his proposal to her.
Jane was so happy 😀. She thought to herself. Fate must have brought us together again and forever.
