Quest
The glare my mother sent me from across the room was enough to make holes through my head if possible. She was so angry at me and I understand her anger but sometimes my mother liked to take mere things overboard like how she's being angry currently for me not doing well in my exams. In all honesty, though, she asked for it. I mean it was clear knowledge to not ask a woman about her age and a man about his salary so why does it not apply the same to a student's result?
Marching up to my room with footsteps echoing through the silent hallways with only my mother's screams to be heard telling me how disappointed she was and other stuff but what got my attention was when she said I was grounded for the whole summer. I cannot be grounded just for a flimsy result because I had a mystery to solve with my friends this summer. After so many attempts of trying to talk to my mother, she still insisted on me being grounded.
One thing she forgot was that Amelia Evans was a tough nut to crack and got that trait from her. At exactly eleven at night, I snuck out of my room using the tree by the window side. I climbed the nearest branch, holding tight until I swung my legs across and eventually jumped down from the tree. Running across the yard with my friends, we decided to walk through the bush path instead of the sidewalks to avoid being easily noticed. We could hear the sounds of scrunched leaves under our feet as we made our way through the path.
Now, I might not be the most intelligent but a good mystery always quipped my interest and this was the biggest mystery so far no one could solve in our town. The mystery of the horror cave. It was a mystery because no one could ever figure out what was in the cave and every once in a while it would let out a shrill cry and release the sweet smell of flowering plants and sometimes cries too. No one had ever dared to go into the cave for fear of what might happen and it probably wasn't wise for three unarmed teenagers like ourselves to wander into a place we didn't understand or knew about. We never knew it would take so long to get to our destination. I mean it took us twelve hours to get to the cave and I couldn't even believe I was still standing with how much I was so drenched with sweat from walking. Well, I guess the saying which says, you never really know how strong you are unless being strong is the only option you've got, is true then.
Being teenagers we were so sure of ourselves to the brim. We never wanted anyone to come our way until we got to the route of the mystery.
We made our way into the cave not knowing what awaited us. The place was so cold with sticky wet vines attaching themselves to the wall. It happened so quickly like a flash of lightning and immediately we fell inside a hole, sinkhole if you wanted to call it that. It was so cold, freezing even and we made a terrible mistake of sneaking out and not even getting food along with us and now no one would know where we are. No way out and no way to squeeze out ourselves as we were deep inside the cave. No way out and no way in.
Two days and yes two days and no one knew where we were and we are still stuck in this stupid hole. If only I had just obeyed my mother for once, all these would not have been happening to me. We were all drained due to lack of water and starvation and we started hearing voices at the mouth of the cave. I couldn't even shout out because I was so tired and even when I tried, I blacked out almost immediately. This was how we all fainted right inside the cave. No one to rescue us and all hope of being alive was gone.
I woke up to a beeping sound in a white room with my mother sitting in the corner. I guess I made it out alive then. My mum later explained to me how she sent people alongside herself to search for me and behold, I was found in the hole alongside my friends.
