Year 2067
The earth, now succumbed by industries, devoted to wars and doctrine in masses, was carrying with it a lethargy of Nature now dissipated on every space. Societies were no longer divided, and formed the same nucleus of thoughts and ideals assigned as a DNA.
A world where there is a ban on knowledge, where all historical sources, free will and freedom of thought are eliminated. Forming then layers of industrial workers for a globalized nation, the only sectors that can be separated are those where the qualified human lives as a cattle and the qualified human lives as its farmer.
In one of the many houses listed by bar codes lived Alex, a 14-year-old boy who was annoyed by the gray appearance of the days, houses and people. With a structured schedule between attending mandatory classes in the morning and then preparing to work in industries in the afternoon, he began to disagree with the social groups around him.
So he organized a plan to follow the path of a quietly heard myth about the one person who was stripped of his human rights and banished from the monotonous and empty life of every citizen on Earth, which said: "One man, refused to give up his knowledge and the freedom of his thoughts, was definitively erased from all civil records, hidden among the skirts of the cities represented as the shame of a nation built on obedience''. A myth which, of course, was punishable by law if it was expressed openly among the inhabitants.
On the morning of April 17th, passing the last limit of the city where he lived, Alex saw the row of factories already destroyed by the wear and tear of the years which only announced the civil abandonment that preceded them, as dark and rusty as the rest of the world; above them a green lump was formed inviting the boy to come closer and say hello. Alex, who at that point was completely unaware of the figure dancing above the steel roofs, set out to meet what was now his new discovery, passing through the rubble of those destroyed buildings.
Once through the steel wall, before his eyes extended what looked like a giant stone immutable green and brown.
— Is this a safe place for a young person? —A thick voice spoke behind him back, startling Alex. — What brings you to this place? More importantly, how did you get here?
— I'm Alex sir and... I'm looking for...
— Me, very probably, because nobody knows the trees anymore, but they know me. —he replied.
— So if it is true that you exist.
Alex's eyes shone with enthusiasm, he was the one who had discovered that the myth was true, that the people who spoke about that subject did not lie.
— So... — The man was wearing clean white clothes, his face, adorned with wrinkles, denoting that he was an old man.
— I'm Billy, Alex —he introduced—: I would like to know what brings you here.
— I wanted to meet you, to know if it was true what some people were talking about and... —he interrupted you.
— And why I am here... Yes, long story, do you have time? — Alex agreed—; well... First you must know that that which is in front of your eyes is called a tree and it generates life. The second thing you should know is that this is freedom and what you know is called prison.
» But in order to know what freedom is you must have lived with it and in turn it must have been taken away from you, but unfortunately you grew up in a dependent environment. Many years ago, before the world was a single state, I was a teacher, an arts teacher. Do you know what art is, Alex?
— No sir.
— It is a pity. I was very young, I was starting my profession and the world was starting to change, people voted to destroy the borders and unite among themselves believing that it would bring peace, but this only brought tragedy. They started riot groups to intimidate people, we were all classified as they did with cattle, thinking differently from them was paid for with death.
» I always refused to abandon my own thinking, my ideals, my freedom, I was locked up and threatened until they did not know what else to do with me and expelled me from their paradise. Over the years I watched nature disappear, the environment became gray and withered so I held on to the one thing I knew could give me more life, that tree over there. For those who manage this industry the world became their ideal, instead, for those who are managed, the world became their cage, as they were forbidden to think freely, creativity, colors, art and writing were removed from their teaching manual.
Alex then built in his head the idea of a tortuous hell, walked with Billy to the tree and sat at the foot of it, the boy admired by the smell it gave began to touch it and embrace it. Billy continued.
— There were more like me, but they were eliminated, by some divine grace they never managed to eliminate me, they have only known how to brand me as a national shame, even though talking about me is severely sanctioned. To be here with me is to return to the world that was once free, here music has never stopped playing, nor have books stopped talking...
— Books? —asked the boy.
— Of course, my boy! Books, stories that never end, gigantic, people who saved this place in its time from the gray that now envelops it.
— But... why are you alone, Billy? Why hasn't anyone supported you? —asked Alex.
— Because sometimes being right is a lonely place, kid. Sometimes I feel that I am still alive just to remind them all what it is to be human —Billy sighed—: before the world could be painted in colors and humans had freedom of choice, today they are all registered with a code as if they were supermarket products.
— What if I decide to stay with you, Billy? —spoke Alex.
Billy frowned and watched the boy hoping for a change of opinion, but as he breathed in his determination never gone he shrugged his shoulders and spoke.
— Then you will repeat the story of the forbidden fruit, disobeying an order and you taste of the tree of all knowledge, then perhaps, you will be the breaking point of this withered world.
Año 2067
La tierra, que ahora se encontraba sucumbida por las industrias, entregado a las guerras y la doctrina en masas, cargaba con ella un letargo de la naturaleza ahora disipada en cada espacio. Las sociedades ya no estaban divididas, formaban un mismo núcleo de pensamientos e ideales asignados como un ADN.
Un mundo donde existe la prohibición del conocimiento, donde se encuentra eliminado todos los procedentes históricos, el libre albedrío y la libertad de pensamiento. Formando entonces capas de trabajadores industriales para una nación globalizada, los únicos sectores que pueden ser separados son aquellos en donde vive el humano calificado como un ganado y el humano calificado como su ganadero.
En una de las tantas casas enumeradas por códigos de barra vivía Alex, un chico de 14 años al cuál le molestaba el aspecto gris que siempre le presentaban los días, las casas y las personas. Con un horario estructurado entre asistir a clases obligatorias en la mañana y luego prepararse para trabajar en las industrias por las tardes, empezaba a discrepar con los grupos sociales que lo rodeaban.
Así que organizó un plan para seguir el camino de un mito que se escuchaba a voces bajas sobre la única persona que fue despojada de sus derechos humanos y desterrada de la vida monótona y vacía que tenía cada ciudadano de la Tierra, el cuál contaba: ''Un sólo hombre, rehusado a renunciar a sus conocimientos y a la libertad de sus pensamientos, fue borrado de manera definitiva de todos los registros civiles, oculto entre las faldas de las ciudades representado como la vergüenza de una nación construida en base a la obediencia''. Mito que por supuesto, era penado por la ley si se expresaba abiertamente entre los habitantes.
En la mañana del 17 de abril, pasando el último límite de la ciudad en la cuál vivía, Alex divisó la fila de fábricas ya destruidas por el desgaste de los años las cuáles sólo anunciaban el abandono civil que las precedía, tan oscuras y oxidadas como el resto del mundo; por encima de ellas un bulto verde se formaba invitando al chico a acercarse y saludar. Alex, quién para ese punto desconocía por completo la figuraba que bailaba por encima de los techos de acero, se dispuso a llegar al encuentro de lo que ahora era su nuevo descubrimiento, pasando entre los escombros de aquellas edificaciones destruidas.
Una vez atravesada la muralla de acero, ante sus ojos se extendió lo que parecía una gigante de piedra inmutable de color verde y marrón.
— ¿Es éste un lugar seguro para un joven? —una voz gruesa habló a sus espaldas, sobresaltando a Alex. — ¿Qué te trae por éste lugar? Y lo más importante aún, ¿cómo haz llegado hasta aquí?
— Soy Alex señor y... estoy buscando a...
— A mí muy probablemente, porque nadie conoce ya a los árboles, pero sí a mi. —respondió.
— Entonces si es verdad que usted existe.
Los ojos de Alex brillaban con entusiasmo, era él quién había descubierto que aquel mito era verdadero, que entonces las personas que hablaban sobre aquel sujeto no mentían.
— Entonces... — El sujeto vestía prendas blancas y pulcras, su rostro, adornado por las arrugas denotaban que era un anciano.
— Yo soy Billy, Alex —se presentó—: me gustaría saber que te trae por aquí.
— Yo quería conocerlo a usted, saber si era verdad lo que algunas personas hablaban y... —lo interrumpió.
— Y por qué estoy aquí... Si, larga historia ¿tienes tiempo? — Alex asintió—; bien... Primero debes saber que eso que está frente a tus ojos se llama árbol y genera vida. Lo segundo que debes saber es que esto es la libertad y lo que tu conoces se llama prisión.
» Pero para poder saber lo que es la libertad debes haber vivido con ella y a su vez, debió de haberte sido despojada, pero lamentablemente creciste bajo un entorno dependiente. Hace muchos años, antes de que el mundo fuese un sólo estado yo era profesor, profesor de artes ¿sabes lo que es el arte Alex?
— No señor.
— Es una lástima. Yo era muy joven, estaba empezando mi profesión y el mundo estaba empezando a cambiar, la gente votó por destruir las fronteras y unirse entre ellos creyendo que traería paz, pero esto sólo trajo tragedia. Comenzaron grupos antimotin para amedrentar a las personas, fuimos todos clasificados como lo hacían con el ganado vacuno, pensar diferente a ellos se pagaba con la muerte.
» Yo siempre me rehusé a abandonar mi pensamiento propio, mis ideales, mi libertad, fui encerrado y amenazado hasta que no supieron que más hacer conmigo y me expulsaron de su paraíso. Con los años observé a la naturaleza desaparecer, el entorno se volvía gris y marchito así que me aferré a lo único que sabía que podría darme más vida, ese árbol que está ahí. Para aquellos que manejan ésta industria el mundo se convirtió en su ideal, en cambio, para quiénes son manejados, el mundo se convirtió en su jaula, como les fue prohibido el libre pensamiento, se les extirpó de su manual de enseñanza la creatividad, los colores, el arte y la escritura.
Alex, construyendo entonces en su cabeza la idea de un infierno tortuoso, caminó junto a Billy hacía el árbol y se sentaron a los pies de éste, el chico admirado por el olor que expedía el mismo empezó a tocarlo y abrazarlo. Billy continuó.
— Habían más cómo yo, pero fueron eliminados, por alguna gracia divina a mí nunca lograron eliminarme, sólo han sabido tildarme de vergüenza nacional, aunque hablar de mí sea sancionado severamente. Estar aquí conmigo es regresar al mundo que una vez fue libre, aquí la música jamás ha dejado de sonar, ni los libros han dejado de hablar...
— ¿Libros? —preguntó el chico.
— ¡Pues claro muchacho! Libros, historias que nunca tienen final, gigantescos, personas que salvaron a éste plano en su momento del gris que ahora lo arropa.
— Pero... ¿por qué estás solo Billy? ¿Por qué nadie te ha apoyado? —preguntó Alex.
— Porque a veces tener la razón es un lugar solitario, muchacho. A veces siento que continúo con vida sólo para recordarle a todos ellos lo que es ser humano —Billy suspiró—: antes el mundo podía pintarse de colores y los humanos tenían libertad de decisión, hoy todos están registrados con un código como si fuesen productos de supermercado.
— ¿Qué pasa si decido quedarme contigo Billy? —habló Alex.
Billy frunció el ceño y observó al muchacho esperando algún cambio de idea, pero al respirar la determinación del mismo se encogió de hombros y habló.
— Entonces repetirás la historia del fruto prohibido, desobedeciendo una orden y probando del árbol de todo el conocimiento, entonces quizás, seas el punto de quiebre de éste mundo marchito.
