A.vendor B. Uncertain about life C.Spouse and D. Alcohol
On a cold Saturday morning shortly after a rainfall, Geoffrey, a young vendor sat at a corner shivering inside a jacket that partially covered his body. He stared into the open air with his fist locked on his jaw, soaked newspapers were scattered around him. He was drawn to consciousness by the running water that had almost soaked his wears. He opened his eyes and grabbed the bottle of beer that was stuck inside the jacket and gulped half of it.
"Mr Geoffrey", a man at the end of the street called, "please take a rest for today, the weather is not suitable for your kind of business".
Geoffrey looked at his now soaked clothes and mumbled. Hurriedly, he gathered the scattered newspapers and adjusted his position to a more convenient area. He watched the street, realizing how students ran helter skelter trying to meet up with one activity or the other, the tricyclist battling with the now flooded streets, and traders picking up their goods thrown away by the wind. He looked down at his newspapers, and nodded his head. This wasn't the life he had dreamt of back then in college as a business administrative student, he had studied hard to graduate with a first class, but the society turned out to be a battle for employment while the C student flourished. He pushed aside the magazine he was holding and finished the beer that was left inside the bottle. He was still troubled when he caught sight of something that left him pondering
Doris, Geoffrey's spouse was troubled. She knew her husband will come home drunk and the effect will be red patches on her face from his beatings. He was a good man until he began to drink, complaining about how cruel life has been to him. They have met with counsellors on different occasions, which only helped for a short time until the pressure of life began to come on him. Geoffrey came home staggering from intoxication, he held straight the box containing his certificate, and stare consistently into it. Tears began to rolled down his eyes. Doris had never seen him this way, she felt compassion for him as she hugged him from behind. "Everything will be fine" she said as she tightened the hug.
"This is not the kind of life I had dreamt for us" he said sobbing.
" I know" she replied.
"I'm sorry for the pain I have caused you all this years".
Doris was silent watching him in surprise but she was joyed within.
He continued, "I have resolved to accept life and make the best of it. I met with someone today, someone whom I can say I'm better off, but even in his state, I could see the smile in his face". He paused and put up a smile, " I'm a vendor, that's who I am, until things change, I will accept who I am". He picked up his certificate in business administration reading a first class, " I will use this as an additional to improve my marketing skill as I sell". He said pointing at it.
