It was a sunny day out there in the outskirts of Edo, John feeling so stressed out dejected after been fired from work by his boss because of the conspiracy between his co-workers.
Although John wasn't well to do, he could tag himself among the middle class. He was a man of integrity as he wouldn't jeopardize his integrity by involving himself in such a conspiracy to rip the company of a huge amount of money.
The departed words said to him as John left the company with his sack letter kept playing in John's head and in as much as those words seem true because of the situation he found himself in, he wouldn't want to believe it.
On his way home, he got a call from his wife telling him she needed money to go shopping with her girl-friends. John did not know what to say as he expected a pay from his boss after the day's job but got nothing because he was fired.
John couldn't say anything to his dear wife on the phone as he wasn't ready to hear her nagging to him about his lack of not been able to take care of her.
John's wife not only complained but always compared john with his friend's husband. She always found one reason or the other to nag about John's inability.
He thought about how he was going to make his dear wife understand the loss of his job but he knew it was going to be harder than he thought.
He did not realize he was home not until he heard the yelling of his wife at the top of her voice at him for being an irresponsible man and a foolish man.
Without considering how her husband was feeling after listening to his day ordeal, she said to him firmly. "You had better go back there and accept to help your co-workers in that conspiracy so you can get your job back and have money to pay the bills and take care of me too".
John thought what he heard was a mistake until he said to his wife, This is my integrity we are talking about here, you know I am a Christian, and I can't jeopardize that because of money" but his wife said "What is faith without money? What is life without money?
John couldn't believe his wife as he told her "Dear wife, money is not everything" but the wife said, "John, to me money is everything and if you won't go back and do what needs to be done, then count me out of this marriage because I can't marry a poor man".
Confused and bitter he heard his co-workers voice as clear as day "Money is everything".
