Humanity
That morning Lee had not come home from school, his parents were worried because for some time now he had gotten together with that Hindu classmate that his mother never liked.
His parents delayed the meal as long as possible, waiting for the young adolescent to appear, since it was his father's rule that after giving thanks, no one would join the table and go without eating.
His mother, a young woman, barely 35 years old, Catholic and highly religious, carried the faith and the mandates of the church to the last consequences, anyone would have said she was a fanatic, if Mr. Jhon was not there, this if he was a fanatic of those who went so far as to flagellate himself if he considered that he had sinned, even by thought or omission.
In fact, Mr. Jhon had been a great drunk and gambler, who every time he got drunk he beat his wife and children, but when his first wife left him taking his two children, he stopped drinking and taking drugs and abandoned all his vices to dedicate your life to God.
It was there in that church that he met Irene, she helped him recover and in the process they fell in love and got married, they quickly had a son who they named Lee.
Lee was just fourteen years old, and that afternoon he would turn fifteen, which is why his father waited up to half an hour to allow him to sit at the table to eat, but he never came.
Mrs. Irene was alarmed it was at night, when the guests to the party began to arrive and neither Lee, nor his best friend the Hindu boy, (She never learned his name), arrived.
In the morning, they went to the police station and there they told him that they had to wait 72 hours to declare him missing.
The policeman who attended him apparently had no feelings.
Had he run away from home before?
But my son is barely 15 years old.
It is a very unstable age.
But this had never happened.
Sir, understand that you have to wait as long as the law requires.
He is just a child, he had never disappeared.
Did you have any problems at home, any discussion?
Mr. Jhon, lost his patience, only Reverend Robert, tried to give him some comfort.
Let's start by calling your friends.
Father, Lee has only one friend, and he's also missing.
They were looking for him all month, searches were even organized and the family posted pamphlets throughout the neighborhood, but no trace of little Lee appeared.
Thus 30 years passed, Mrs. Irene had already lost hope, while Mr. Jhon had learned that police statistics showed that if a person does not appear in the first three days of his disappearance, the most probable thing is that he was dead.
And when they had resigned themselves to never seeing Lee again, they received a call from the neighboring county police, where they found a young Hindu, who claimed to be the friend of his son Lee, and that he knew where to find him.
Mr. Lee and Mrs. Irene traveled to the neighboring county to meet up with their son Lee, but when they arrived there was only the young Hindu, along with his wife and a young son.
He told them a most terrible story, he said that this day they were both intercepted on the way back home, by a vehicle marked with some symbols of white supremacy, these were identified with a group of racist fanatics, punishers of vices of society, and they had been taken away, locked up for an indeterminate time, that they were both savagely beaten and sexually abused, and that they only managed to get out of there when one of the fans thought that Lee was dead, and threw his body in a ravine.
Anand Brahma, (that was his name) managed to escape that same night from his captors, and for some reason in the flight he passed through the ravine discovering that Lee was still alive.
He took him with his family, but he never wanted to return to his parents' house, since he was very afraid of his father, because of the abuse he had been subjected and because of the religious fanaticism of Mr. Jhon, so he never returned.
Until 30 years later, he saw a documentary on television where they talked about his disappearance and all the sacrifices and suffering his poor mother had undergone, and even everything his father did to try to find him.
Only then did he decide to return, to try to give some peace to his old parents, who never stopped looking for him.
The father fell to his knees thanking God for the miracle, Dona Irene ran to hug her husband and they both thanked God that after so long, they would not die without knowing what had happened to their little son.
Only one thing was missing, they both got up and stared at Anand Brahma, and a single glance was enough, Anand's wife stopped in front of them and showed them where Lee was.
Her mother hugged her, took her now feminine face in her hands and told her that she always knew that he was alive, Doña Irene took Mr. Jhon's hand, pulling him towards them, giving each other a hug, suddenly Mr. Jhon separated abruptly from mother and daughter, but it was only for a second, there both were astonished to see Mr. Jhon take Anand by the hand, joining them all in a hug that in those few seconds had passed one of the most difficult tests ever had humanity forever:
Tolerance
The end
