Where is Sam? Immediately I heard that question, I already knew I was in a deep mess that would only take the grace of a higher hand to take me out of it.
My legs are already shaking like someone dancing to a makosa beat.
My sis ran to me and said “Haaaaa!!! Mama is back ooo.”
I could feel my heart sink into my Tummy. Has she discovered it?
I asked my sister when the question came again, Where is Sam? At this point I don't know what to do. I felt my body temperature rising, but that is not a good enough reason to stop whatever that will happen from happening. It was as if I should fail to exist on this planet, at that point I would have preferred that the ground open its mouth and swallow me just to prevent me from the forthcoming Wahala (Trouble) to be precise.
All this thought came just within a twinkle of an eye.
Sam!!! The name was called once but trust me I heard the name echoed 3× to my ears.
Ma, I tried to answer even though the sound would barely pass my vocal cavity to the hearing of someone.
My sister at this point has left me to my fate as she herself was scared of what will befall me.
I took myself out of the room to the sitting room where my mum was sitting patiently, but I know her patience can only last for a short period of time and the result of her running out of patience is not always good.
Image from meta Ai. Kneel down there.
The instruction came with a weight that is capable of drowning an entire ship. I obeyed that simple instruction though heavy, hoping it will help reduce the pressure whatever that is to come upon me at that moment.
I knelt down, my eyes already filled with tears waiting for any slight move that will cause it to begin to gosh out.
Where did you go? The interrogation started properly.
Nowhere ma. I replied.
Ehnn!!! My mum exclaimed and sprang up from where she was sitting with a furious face as she walked towards where I was kneeling at that point the tears that gathered in my eye had began to flow uncontrollably, two things are involved today It's either I die or someone just walks in to save me and the only person that can do that now is my father which is almost impossible as it's not yet time for him to close from work.
Let's pause here.
This was what brought us to that.
Earlier that day my mum was going to the market so she left me and my younger sister at home with a strong and tough warning never to step out of the house until she is back.
When it's noon you guys should warm the stew and eat the rice I kept in the food flask with it, the instructions were given to me directly since I happen to be the eldest.
Everything was going well as we carry out some house chores assigned to us, we finished in no time but then it was noon so I decided to play a smart one so I asked my sister to sit at home and watch some TV programmes while I go out for a while but then I decided to warm the stew just so I could be conscious while the stew is on fire.
I stepped out to catch up with friends just for a moment, not too far from the house.
I met them riding on a plywood well constructed with 3 Boris in the form of its tire( it's just like a skating board but a locally made skating board) so I decided to ride with them the little time I decided to take turned into several minutes and then running into an hour.
I came to my senses when my sister ran out from the house screaming at the top her voice fire! fire!! fire!!! That alarm triggered the whole of us playing there so we ran down to the house just to discover that the pot of stew had burnt, causing a small disaster that would have turned into a big one if my sister had not raised the alarm as at the time she did.
At that point I knew I just signed my death warrant because I know who my mum is. So a friend suggested that I pull one of my eyelashes and place it on my head then try to find it. If I don't find it then it means my mum will just overlook what happened and not react.
So I did as I was told just to prevent the worst from happening when we couldn't find the lash. We all were happy as we waited for the outcome of our belief even though I knew I was alone in this.
Back to the initial stage.
So my mum came close to me, her voice rising like a thunderstorm, “You burnt a pot of freshly made stew that was supposed to serve for at least 3 weeks all the meat and you almost got the house burnt as a result of your nonchalant attitude.
At that point I was already crying at the top of my voice trying to call attention if anyone would come to my rescue but my shout did nothing as my mum already locked the door.
That was how a deliverance was conducted on me that day. The discipline was too heavy, I guess the eyelashes thing did not work on my mum and ever since then I dare not go out for any reason when my mum is not around.
Except for now that we are all grown and anyone can take care of the house.
Thanks for stopping by.
