Fabian, whose pain constantly followed him everywhere, went from class to home without ever being able to stray from the path. His grandfather, now aged, but nevertheless motivated by a quite pure love, took care of him with care, but also strict, if Fabian did not return home at the time he was supposed to arrive, his grandfather would look for him in every corner of the town, he had done it before and of course he had found him.
Fabian didn't want to go through that again, so he avoided disobeying his grandfather at all costs and limited himself to visiting the places his grandfather allowed him to, when he went with him. Still, she secretly wished she had some freedom and time to be alone, after all, when you are sad you need moments alone to think. But this was something that his grandfather's overprotection did not allow him to see, let alone understand.
Fabian was filled with impotence and began to devise a plan to leave that place, he saved for several weeks the money that his grandfather gave him for breakfast at school, and thus completed enough money to buy a bus ticket to the nearest town, he planned to try to get there and get more money to go to the city and finally be free. It pained Fabian to leave his grandfather, but it also pained him to live in confinement.

The day was approaching and Fabian was totally determined to leave, with some tears in his eyes, that Sunday he ate what would probably be the last dinner with his grandfather. They talked about several things, his grandfather with his voice already trembling told him about his mother when she was a little girl and some of her antics, that was the first time his grandfather talked about his mother with him, but Fabian did not say anything, he enjoyed listening to those stories.
The next morning, he put on his uniform, took his backpack and said goodbye to his grandfather as he did every morning.
– Don't forget to come back on time Fabian, I don't want anything to happen to you. - Said his grandfather as he hugged him.
Fabian walked to the school, so as not to arouse suspicion and when he was close enough, he filled with courage and began to run with all his strength towards the bus station. There was no turning back, without stopping he handed in his ticket and got on the bus, leaving that town and his beloved grandfather behind.

He felt very scared, along the way the bus was filling up with people, people he had never seen before, one of them sat in the empty seat next to Fabian and tried to get him to talk to him so that the trip would be shorter, however, Fabian was so scared that his voice did not come out. At school he only talked to a few classmates and his grandfather, he had never had to talk to other people, he had never had to get on a bus and above all, he had never been out of his small town.
When he arrived, everything he had planned seemed to collapse, his grandfather's extreme care prevented him from going anywhere to ask for a job, what job? He had never learned to do anything by himself. The hours passed and Fabian found himself sitting on a sidewalk, trembling and a little frustrated, thinking about what he would do now.
Meanwhile, his grandfather at home, watched the hours go by and when he did not see Fabian arrive, he went out to look for him in desperation, every time this happened he remembered the worst day of his life. His daughter, son-in-law and Fabian were driving around, they told him they would go home early to spend time with him, but they were having such a good time that they decided to stay another few hours, it was already late and he was sitting in the living room waiting for them to arrive, however, that night they did not come back.

He was sad, but he understood that maybe they were having fun, so he went to bed to sleep. The next morning the police brought Fabian home, with some wounds on his face and a cast on his arm. That day his world fell apart, when he heard the officer say that his only daughter had died in an early morning car accident. Without realizing it, that sad experience led him to feel an inordinate fear of losing the only person he had left in his life: Fabian.
After searching all over town and not finding him, the grandfather knew he was gone from there, he feared that moment would come and went home with tears in his eyes, unconsciously saying goodbye to his beloved grandson. He returned home and sat in the old armchair where he had sat the day he was waiting for his daughter's return, but just like that night his grandson did not return.
Fabian had to stay in the street that night and when he woke up, a noble woman named Maria approached him and asked what he was doing in that place, filled with fear he began to tell her and after a kind smile, she took him to her little café and told him she could give him a job. They were hard days, but little by little Fabian learned, after a few weeks he could talk freely with anyone who entered the café and he had enough money and security to continue with his plans. He told Maria that it was time to go, Maria nodded and after a long hug whispered to him:
– Since you have learned so much, I think that before you leave, you should go back and give a big hug to the one who is surely waiting for you.

Fabian did not want to go back, but he knew he had to, after all he understood how much his grandfather had suffered and why he cared for him so much. So, he took the bus home and when he arrived, he found his grandfather asleep on the couch. Quietly he approached him and gave him a tender kiss on the forehead, as he used to do before going to sleep. Grandpa woke up and when he saw him standing there, a big smile came out of him.
– I'm so glad to see you Fabian, I'm glad you are coming back," said Grandpa as he approached him.
Fabian since then, decided to stay with his grandfather, after all he needs a lot of help, however, now he not only has a job, but he goes out with friends and to other places, his grandfather understood that he should live and be free. However, out of love and understanding that his grandfather's pain will not heal completely, he bought him a phone to communicate with him, whenever he is far away, to let him know that he is well. Since then, they have a better relationship and both are happy to have each other.
