_ Okay! Goodbye.

As you can see, I had successfully completed the urgent negotiation for a property I decided to buy at a low price.
The property consisted of a vacant lot that I would use for the construction of an ecological park, located near the city according to the address indicated in the purchase agreement.
I set off for the usufruct where I would be greeted by a manager.
I loaded up my specialized work materials. My landscaping and architectural plans. The project model and its legal framework. The descriptive report, the updated gazette of regulations, and the technical specifications. In other words, everything necessary to establish the project.
I also brought a small bag containing some personal belongings, since, given the occasion, I planned to spend the night there for just one night, no more.
I put everything in the trunk of my German Trabbi, a 1957 model.
I started the two-stroke engine, which emitted the characteristic metallic rattle of dry pistons, which later became accompanied by the purr of the exhaust pipe.
In the context of my ostentatious professional endeavor on the outskirts of the city, simply put;
I was on the road to success!
After traveling several hundred miles on the interstate, night was already approaching. From the car window, I saw a small, illuminated valley.
It was bordered by a limestone, reddish hillock, whose glow skirted the small plot of a fertile cornfield.
I understood I had reached my destination!
It consisted of a retreat whose enormity encompassed several hectares of untamed desert.
No visitors were arriving with any interest in populating the devastated vastness of this dangerously uncertain place, which, like a complete novice, I chose to embark on my project.
I never imagined the negotiation would be so simple.
The price was practically a steal! And I would be favored either way. However, a singular and strange condition was imposed on me to access such a benefit.
I had to accept the property in question, including the current tenant, who would continue to live in the manor, even though it legally passed to my name.
Due to the interests at stake, I simply agreed. So now I was on my way to put things in order and show who was in charge.
I parked on a shoulder along the road. I turned off the Trabbi's engine, which was brutally overheating. I left my things in the car and walked in the darkness toward a mysterious cabin.
It was a deliberate act! So much so that no one suspected my sudden arrival late at night.
Well, it was also a trauma!
When I was grabbed by a man with a faded face, wrapped in an ancient black rag that flapped in the wind in terror. This one advanced directly towards me, managing to inflict the most tragic and unresolved fear on my meager humanity, which still did not understand anything.
I had to endure the scab of his hand on my shoulder as he uttered convoluted phrases:
_ "It's done..."
_ "I'm the owner!" I replied with nervous authority.
_ "I know!" I showed him the bag.
_ "What? What's a bag?"
_ "The jailbird..."
_ "Anyway, I don't understand!" (I said, keeping myself on tenterhooks).
_ "Come in and see!" the manager concluded.
That guy looked at me with a look of pity and fear. Someone who had undoubtedly lost his soul. To tell the truth, he didn't treat me badly at all! Although I admit, I was held tightly by the arm like someone trying to "protect" you.
Or rather, like someone who anticipated that I might run away in terror.
After hearing a creaking hinge that opened the door. The man led me to the mezzanine via a staircase with rickety balusters and wooden steps that led us to the phreatic chamber. A mysterious, underground chamber with dim light and moldy walls.
He left me at the foot of the steps, which remained swallowed by a sea of shadows. Then he quickly withdrew.
I heard the creaking of the timbers and that plaintive voice, referring to me, as he walked away, beating the tatters:
_ Find something to do! You'll be here a long time.
_ "Hey! You can't leave me," I replied, demanding his attention.
_ "We're part of the deal!"
_ "Deal?" I said.
_ "...
The door opened.
For a brief moment, I barely managed to sit on a step, shivering from the cold, ruining my white dress. The darkness was total; it didn't matter whether I closed my eyes or looked. So I buried my head in my lap, holding on tightly, and waited.
Next, I heard a car start outside the cabin.
According to the rattle of the engine, it was my Trabbi, which kept going until the purr of the exhaust pipe became distant and imperceptible.
A short time after being locked in the dungeon, a man sat down next to me, drowned in tears, emitting a gasp of sad disappointment.
That instantly pierced my merciful chest, where there was no soul left to return me to the world. I expected the worst.
That's how I met the tenant:
_ Are you my freedom? Or my new torture?
_ Wait a minute! I'm the owner!
_ I know...
_ What do you mean? Look, sir! I am the highest authority on this border.
_ ...
(The man remained silent while he fiddled with a lighter)_
That's how he managed to light a half-burned candle, which allowed me to see his appearance for a few short minutes. He was a pale, ashen old man with wrinkled skin and a vacant stare. His pupils were dilated like someone who is used to living in the dire darkness.
The skylight also illuminated part of the cloister, which consisted of a reinforced chamber with concrete walls. It was a completely abandoned office space with some supplies and a drawing table.
Then the man began to share his own experiences, telling me about that underground space that had no exit or contact with the surface.
He had been there for several years. So many that I'd lost count.
_ "It all started when, after accepting the offer for the vacant lot at a very low price, I decided to undertake a corn planting project," the old man said. "However, upon my arrival, a strange man who greeted me locked me in this basement, along with the man who just left."
_ "Okay, but can you explain? How did you get involved?" I asked.
_ "It was thanks to the tempting offer!" he replied.
_ "But what about the former owner?" I asked.
_ "I was surprised by the tempting offer!" _I never saw him! It was all over the phone.
_ _I can't believe it? (I learned my fate, well, I made the same stupid mistake)
The old man looked at me, strangely endowed with a morbid complacency. Like someone who sees me as a travel ticket or some indulgence capable of easing his purgatory. Without revealing any other details, his sadness returned. He then crawled off to sleep in a corner.
So time passed. I accepted that I was the victim of a kidnapping. It was pointless! I could only imagine how the documents for my ecological project brought me misfortune and how they, in turn, were lost in the Trabbi's suitcase.
My initial desire was to make those lands prosper, to create an oasis in the middle of the desert where life would be sustained from the surface to the caverns underground. Where the world would have a small natural refuge that would also serve as an ecosystem for the many species displaced by the hand of man.
Those were long years taken hostage, while the old man looked increasingly worse. He still saw me as his share of freedom. But I wouldn't understand why until the time came!
As if it were a dream!
One morning, when I woke up, I heard the purr of a car just outside the cabin.
I thought I was dreaming!
It was the typical sluggish rhythm of an exhaust pipe aligned with the metallic rattle of the engine.
Unmistakable. It was my '57 Trabbi.
Then I assumed, logically, that it was a ransom. That kidnapping mafia, the one that had held me hostage for so long, had been dismantled.
I heard the basement door unlock, and from below, I saw it backlit.
The elderly tenant was descending the steps with someone tightly held by the arm. After leaving him on the last step, swallowed by darkness, he quickly retreated, the door closing behind him.
I heard the car's engine gradually fade away down the road until the sound became indistinguishable.

_ Soy la señora del proyecto ecológico
_ Ok. ¿Qué quiere?
_ ¡Eh! ¡Es para confirmar mi depósito por la compra de la propiedad!
_ ¡Ok! Adiós
_ ...
¡Como os daréis cuenta! Hube culminado exitosamente la imperiosa negociación de una propiedad que decidí comprar a bajo costo.
La propiedad consistía en un terreno baldío el cual destinaría para la construcción de un parque ecológico, a su vez, ubicado en un sitio cercano a la ciudad según la dirección indicada en el documento de compra-venta.
Me puse en marcha rumbo al usufructo donde sería recibida por un encargado.
Cargué con mi material especializado de trabajo. Mis planos de paisajismo y de arquitectura. La maqueta del proyecto y el marco legal del mismo. La memoria descriptiva, la gaceta actualizada de normativas y las especificaciones técnicas. Es decir, todo lo necesario para fundar la obra.
También llevé un pequeño bolso contentivo de algunos objetos personales, pues, de acuerdo a la ocasión, pensé en pernoctar en aquel sitio por una noche, no más de eso.
Coloqué todo en la cajuela de mi coche Trabbi, alemán, modelo 1957.
Encendí el motor de dos tiempos el cual emitió el traqueteo metálico característico de pistones resecos que luego se acompasarían con el ronroneo del tubo de escape.
En el marco de mi ostentoso emprendimiento profesional en las inmediaciones de la ciudad, sencillamente;
¡Iba camino al éxito!
Después de recorrer varios cientos de kilómetros por la interestatal. Ya cercana la noche. Divisé desde la ventanilla del automóvil un pequeño valle iluminado.
Estaba bordeado de un altozano, calcáreo y rojizo, cuyo fulgor faldeaba el pequeño lote de un fecundo maizal.
¡Entendí, que había llegado a mi destino!
Consistía en un retiro cuya enormidad abarcaba varios hectómetros de indomable desierto.
No llegaba visitante alguno con interés de poblar la asolada vastedad de dicho lugar, peligrosamente incierto, el cual, ¡Como toda una inexperta!, yo escogí para emprender mi proyecto.
Nunca supuse que la negociación sería tan simple.
¡El precio era casi regalado! y saldría favorecida en cualquier modo. No obstante, se me impuso una singular y extraña condición para acceder a tal beneficio.
Debía aceptar la propiedad en cuestión con el inquilino de turno incluido, quien seguiría viviendo en la feudo, aun cuando legalmente este pasara a mi nombre.
De acuerdo a los intereses de por medio, yo simplemente acepté. Por eso, ahora iba en camino a poner orden y a demostrar quién manda.
Me estacioné en un alero de la carretera. Apagué el motor del Trabbi, el cual permanecía brutalmente recalentado. Dejé mis cosas dentro del auto y caminé en medio de la oscuridad en dirección hacia una misteriosa cabaña.
¡Fue un acto deliberado! Tanto así, que nadie suponía de mi sorpresiva llegada a altas horas de la noche.
¡Pues. También fue un trauma!
Cuando fui prendida por un sujeto con la cara desleída. Ceñido a un antiquísimo andrajo de color negro el cual se agitaba al viento con espanto. Éste, avanzó directo hacia mí logrando infligir el más trágico e insoluto miedo a mi exigua humanidad que aún seguía sin entender nada.
Tuve que soportar la cáscara de su mano posada en mi hombro mientras expelía frases enrevesadas:
_ Está hecho...
_ ¡Yo soy la dueña!_, respondí, con nerviosa autoridad.
_ ¡Lo sé! le muestro el talego
_ ¿Cómo? ¿Qué es un talego?
_ La trena...
_ ¡Igual, no entiendo! _, (le dije, manteniéndome en ascuas)
_ ¡Pase y vea! _, concluyó el encargado.
Aquel sujeto me miraba con cara de piedad y miedo. Alguien que sin duda había perdido el alma. A decir verdad, ¡No me trató mal, en absoluto! aunque admito, fui sujeta fuertemente del brazo como cuando alguien intenta “protegerte”.
O más bien, como quien prevé que aterrorizada podría yo salir corriendo.
Luego de oír un chirriante gozne que aperturó la puerta. El hombre me guio al entrepiso por una escalera con balaustres desvencijados y peldaños de madera que nos condujeron al freático. Una recámara soterrada y misteriosa, con escasa luz y paredes de moho.
Me dejó al pie de la grada la cual permanecía tragada por un mar de sombras. Luego, se retiró rápidamente.
Oí, el crujir de los maderos y aquella voz quejumbrosa, que me refería, cuando se alejaba batiendo los jirones:
_ ¡Busque algo que hacer! estará aquí mucho tiempo.
_ ¡Oiga! no puede dejarme_, respondí, demandando su atención.
_ ¡Somos parte del trato!
_ ¿Trato?, dije.
_ ...
Claudicó la puerta.
Por un breve momento, a duras penas, atiné a sentarme en un escalón temblando de frío y arruinando mi vestido de color blanco. La oscuridad era total, daba igual, cerrar los ojos que mirar. Así que hundí la cabeza en mis piernas aferrándome con fuerzas y esperé.
Seguidamente, escuché el encendido de un auto en las afueras de la cabaña.
De acuerdo al traqueteo del motor se trataba de mi Trabbi, el cual, se puso en marcha hasta que el ronroneo del tubo de escape se hizo distante e imperceptible.
Al poco rato de estar encerrada en la mazmorra, a mi lado, se sentó un hombre trabado en llanto que emitía un jadeo de triste decepción.
Aquello, instantáneamente, perforó mi pecho misericordioso, donde ya no había alma que me devolviera al mundo. Esperé lo peor.
Fue así, que conocí al inquilino:
_ ¿Es usted mi libertad? ¿O mi nueva tortura?
_ ¡Un momento! ¡Yo soy la propietaria!
_ Ya lo sé...
_ ¿Qué quiere decir? ¡Mire, caballero! Yo soy la máxima autoridad en este rayano.
_ ...
(El hombre guardó silencio mientras manipulaba en sus manos un encendedor)
Fue así que logró encender una vela consumida a la mitad la cual me dejó ver su aspecto durante algunos escasos minutos. Era un anciano pálido y cenizo con piel arrugada y la mirada perdida. Tenía las pupilas dilatadas como quien está acostumbrado a vivir en la ruin oscuridad.
La lucerna también iluminó parte del claustro el cual consistía en una recámara blindada con paredes de concreto. Un espacio de oficina en franco abandono el cual contaba con algunos útiles y una mesa de dibujo.
Entonces el señor comenzó a hablar su propia experiencia, contándome de aquel soterrado que no tenía salida alguna, ni contacto con la superficie.
Él, llevaba ahí varios años. Tantos, que ya había perdido la cuenta.
_ "Todo empezó cuando al aceptar la oferta por el baldío a muy bajo costo, decidí emprender un proyecto de siembra de maiz"_ Dijo el anciano. _ "Sin embargo, a mi llegada, un extraño sujeto que me recibió me encerró en este sótano, junto al hombre que acaba de salir"_
_ ¿Ok, pero me puede explicar? ¿Cómo es que usted se involucró?_, le pregunté.
_ ¡Fue gracias a la oferta tentadora!, respondió
_ ¿Pero qué hay del antiguo dueño?, hice la pregunta.
_ ¡Nunca le vi! todo fue por teléfono
_ ¿No lo puedo creer? (Supe de mi suerte, pues, yo cometí el mismo estúpido error)
El anciano me miró extrañamente dotado de una mórbida complacencia. Como quien ve en mí un boleto de viaje o como alguna indulgencia capaz de aliviar su purga. Sin revelar algún otro detalle volvió su entristecimiento. Arrastrándose luego a dormir en una esquina.
Así transcurrió el tiempo. Yo acepté, que fui víctima de un secuestro. ¡No tenía caso! solo me quedó imaginar como los pliegos de mi proyecto ecológico me trajeron la desgracia y como estos, a su vez, se perdían en la maleta del Trabbi.
Mi deseo inicial fue hacer prosperar aquellas tierras, crear un oasis en medio del desierto donde se sostuviera la vida desde la superficie hasta las cavernarias del subsuelo. Donde el mundo tuviera un pequeño refugio natural que a la vez sirviera de ecosistema a las tantas especies desplazadas por la mano del hombre.
Fueron largos años tomada por rehén. Mientras que el anciano lucía cada vez más desmejorado. Él aún me veía como su cuota de libertad. ¡Pero yo no entendería por qué, hasta llegado el momento!
¡Como si se tratara de un sueño!
Una mañana, al despertar, escuché el ronroneo de un automóvil a las afueras de la cabaña.
¡Pensé que soñaba!
Era el típico compás bofo de un tubo de escape alineado con el traqueteo metálico del motor.
Inconfundible. Era mi Trabbi. del 57’.
Entonces supuse, lógicamente, que se trataba de un rescate. Había sido desmantelada aquella mafia de secuestro, la que por tanto tiempo me había mantenido como rehén.
Sentí cuando destrabaron la puerta del sótano y desde abajo, vi a contraluz de la puerta.
El anciano inquilino, descendía la grada con alguien a quien traía sujeto fuertemente del brazo. Luego de dejarlo en el último peldaño tragado por la oscuridad, se retiró rapidamente claudicando detrás de sí la puerta.
Oí el motor del coche alejarse progresivamente por la carretera hasta que el sonido se volvió indistinguible.
