Memory can be a very tricky thing. One minute you can leave something somewhere and before you know it, your mind goes blank... Trying to remember where you must have kept it. In Nigeria, the Yoruba call that situation ( o ti fi owo osi mu si ibi kan) which means (You kept it with your left hand). Mostly it is believed that when you keep something with your left hand, you're likely to forget where you've kept it and that is one of the reasons why it is frowned upon or seems rude when you accept something, especially from an older person using your left hand. We've all been in this situation where we tend to forget things. And, as we grow older, we tend to forget some things and sometimes if we have a lot of things in our heads, we might not remember immediately, but after some time when we are calm, we might remember or if luckily we were with someone when we kept that thing, the person might be able to help us remember where we kept it. I have also been a victim of forgetting where I kept something. Sometimes I will be saying something to someone and with a little distraction, I will forget what I was saying, the other person(s) will have to remind me. The recent one that happened to me was when I misplaced one of my shoes. It all started one fine afternoon about a month ago, I was sitting on the couch pressing my phone when I noticed a cockroach "roaming" about. I was like; "Are you kidding me, You're roaming about in broad daylight?". I looked for the nearest weapon close to me so I could kill it and it turns out to be one out of a pair of black shoes I wore the previous day. I successfully killed it but it soiled the shoe and I took it out to clean the shoe after I had disposed of the remains of the cockroach. When I got downstairs, I proceeded to get what I will use in cleaning it when I got a call from my phone, so I just kept the shoe under the stairs so I could answer my phone and I forgot about it afterward. Fast forward to about a week after, I wanted to go out and I finished dressing up you know how black shoes go with almost any outfit you wear? Yeah, I decided to bring the shoes out to wear but I saw only one out of the pair. It was strange because I always get my shoes together. So, I decided to search everywhere and I couldn't find it. I even thought my younger sister has hidden a pair the last time she came visiting as she can be sometimes naughty and love to look for my trouble (though in a loving way). Therefore, I picked up my phone and called her to tell me the whereabouts of the "pair of shoes she took" as I believed whenever I am looking for something she must have been the one who hid it. I was a bit angry with her but she swore she didn't take it. I started thinking about where the other pair of shoe could be but... Nothing was forthcoming as I was running late so, I opted for sandals instead. All through my journey on the bus, I was still thinking of where the pair of shoes could be but I couldn't remember where I kept it. After I finish what I was doing, I decided to stop at the market to get some groceries and toiletries. I got to a shop to get something and I saw the insecticide spray with the picture of a cockroach on it and I shouted; "Hey! I remember o". The shop owner just looked at me and asked if I were okay and I just told her I remembered something right now. I ended up buying the insecticide that I didn't plan for since I was having excess cash on me. Immediately I got home, I barely put down the things I got before racing back downstairs. I checked under the stairs and I saw the shoe I was looking for. I finally smiled and a thought came to me; I realized I lost it because of a cockroach and I found it because of a cockroach. The way some things happen sometimes can be very funny. Thank you all for reading.
