Greetings!
Being a slow learner is not ideal as people often perceive you as a dullard. This was my kind of status while growing up as I was never close to knowing anything or being brilliant at all.
“Sam, why didn't you want to improve your academic performance?“ asked my mum. “I'm trying my best, but it's not showing,” I replied. “Don't worry dear, I will make sure your issue is being attended to,” she promised.
So, after our short discussion, she left and went out, and when she came back, she came with a middle-aged woman and she introduced her to me as my private lesson tutor. When I heard this good news, I was so happy and I embraced the idea.
“I am Mrs. Ayo and I will be your private tutor from now on,” the woman said. “Okay ma,” I replied. “So, I will need your full co-operation,” she said. “Okay, no problem ma, thanks,” I replied.
Immediately after our conversation, we started the tutorial properly and it's a nice and quality session to have with the woman as she took me throughout the day.
But, as Rome was not built in a day, it took the woman several months to groom me to become a success academically.
However, before I could achieve academic success, I repeated a class twice even while I was under the women's tutor, but ever since I overcame the my academics challenges of being a dullard and carrying the last position in my class, I became a force to reckon with in my school and in every competition, I must be a partaker and win the competition for my school.
Aside from this, all my teachers and friends were astonished by my academic excellence and achievement. But I didn't let it go to my head. One of my friends, Lekan, came to me and asked,
“Sam, what has changed about you?” “Nothing,” I replied. He said, “seriously, a lot has changed about you.” “Really?” I asked. “Yes, a lot has changed about you. You that used to come last in the class is now topping the class,” he said. “Is that what you meant by what has changed about me?” I asked. “Yes,” he replied. “If that's what you mean, it's not me but my God,” I said.
So, when I said this, we both laughed and embraced ourselves. This guy who came to me was one of the top scholars in my class when I used ranked last, but now I have surpassed them and I'm very sure they're not happy about it, but that's their problem I thought to myself.
Furthermore, this development brought me into the limelight within and outside my school, leading me to pursue my dream of becoming a civil engineer in life.
But I owe my gratitude to God and my mum for helping me become who I am today. Also I would not forget the intervention of Mrs. Ayo who tutored me to be a force to reckon with academically.
In conclusion, the combined effort of my mum and my lesson teacher brought me out of my inabilities to set me on the highest level in my academic pursuit.
