"Time tells no lie's, at midnight all truths would be told" This was written on the back of the tipped over caravan.
"Sir Midknight?" A young squire asked nervously. "Yes boy?" I answered back.
"This isn't your jurisdiction, you should leave." He stood with his eyes darting around looking at every corner, every shake in the shadow seemed to make him jump.
Making such people squeal is one of the best feelings, so I put on my most dangerous smile, tipped my hat down and turned to look at him.
"Are you scared boy?" I asked, making sure to draw out the boy a little bit.
"Are you scared of the horrors of the nighttime?" I asked again, walking closer. He stepped back and tripped on the pavement. With his back on the floor, I stepped towards him.
"Do you know why they call me Midknight boy?" I asked. "N-n-n-no Sir" he stuttered.
I smiled. "Why, I was a young wimpy fella like you." I said poking him in his chest, making the poke hard enough to hurt him with his armor.
"You were?" He asked. "Well of course" I replied "I was all gangly and spiny as you and dreamed of being the greatest knight, making riches, saving a princess and whatnot." I said laughing while he blushed a little bit as that's probably what was on his mind as he took up the sword.
"Do you want to know what changed?" I asked. He replied by nodding his head.
"Time" I said in a deep voice. "Most people say experience is the best teacher, but experience learns from Time. In time I learnt that the borderline between most contradictions are rather thin. In time I learnt how to survive." I smiled while he kept a straight face.
"In fact, there was once a time when I got lost, I was just a squire in training then. Didn't know my vambraces from my grieve." He Smiled at that.
"I wandered into the forest wanting to prove myself to my master, time and experience joined hands to teach me this lesson boy. I was lost for four days, starved and near death. On the fourth night, I was sure it would be my last when I got a visit." "A visit?" He asked
"Yes boy a visit. It was the goddess of the night. Apparently one of her shadow's informed her of me. She came and bestowed unto me the power of dark." "With that power I've seen all what the goddess has seen, I've seen all what time had thought men and what we've forgotten." At that moment the boy notice my hand on his sword and how it had changes from shining silver, to gleaming black.
I stood up from him and dusted the black power of my hands. "You're scared of the Shadows, they're my pets." I formulated a Shadow rope and he's face was ashen white.
"I got back to my masters quarters at midnight, He was gone. I never did finish my knightly training, but I'm stronger than most platoons. Hence I'm Midknight." He didn't seem to hear me, his eyes were still fixated on my rope. I made it vanished and bid him goodbye.
He stood idly for a while, so I told him to clear the crowd that gathered, probably wondering if there would be a fight between both of us. While I sat down to wait for those who would reveal the truth at midnight.
"They better have a good juicy truth to reveal, for they kidnapped the head of the brewery factory." A local drunk said as he wandered by, picking two unbroken bottles from the crates left unattended to. I decided to have a drink while waiting for my visitors.
At 3 mins to midnight, the street was awfully quiet. I spread my shadows, trying to get a feel of my surroundings.
Suddenly I felt a slight burn on one of my shadows. I turned to the direction the shadow went through but I saw nothing there.
Suddenly a man burst out from the shadows as though he was spitted out. After regaining his composure, he looked at me and smiled, "Midknight, I presume."
"Who are you?" I asked drawing my sword. My mind was telling me only one thing, he was dangerous.
"Whoa whoa whoa" he said holding his hands up and laughing. "I didn't come here to fight. I'm armless as you can see."His hands vanished, then materialized back.
"What was that?" I asked confused. Your hands just vanished.
"Did it? It's probably a trick of the light." He said laughing.
"Who are you?" I asked
"That's a good question. Hmmm, you can call me Dawn." He replied wistfully while looking at the spot my black magic settled after the squire.
"And what do you want?" I ask brandishing my black sword so it can bounce of the moonlight.
He looked at me "You really should put that away, you could hurt yourself. Plus it's useless against me."
"Sorry but it would be out." I said firmly not believing for one second my obsidian sword couldn't cut him.
"Suit yourself." He said standing up
"You asked why I was here, I came to declare war. This kingdom has been in peace for far too long, don't you think.
Ready your troops, you and your nighttime goddess can join too, the more the merrier." He said all that while stretching.
"Now I've done that, I best be on my way." He started walking back down the streets.
"You think you can come to my Kingdom, on my time of the night and insult my goddess, then I'll just let you go scot free?" I said with a voice laced with anger.
He looked back and smirked "Not a chance, but please be careful, it'll be a waste for you to die now."
It was over in a flash, one minute I was flying with my sword in the air, ready to strike him down. The next minute I was on the ground, with the sword in his hands and he was about to stab my belly.
"Whoa," he exclaimed laughing. "Almost lost myself there.I told you to be careful."
He stabbed the sword into the ground and stood up.
"Now if I didn't have self control you would be dead, and that wouldn't have been good."
"Dawn killed Midknight would be all the town crier would be singing."
"You know what, let's postpone the war. The same time next year, we'll meet on the battlefield." He said walking away.
"It'll be ever fitting for the Midknight to fall on a midnight."
Decided to post this on midnight too😂
