He saw the shadow of the tree get longer in the ground and he shivered besides himself.
One would never expect Reek, the scariest ghost in the abandoned Mogrin Mansion to be such a fearful ghoul.
Looking back at the breaking of every twig, shivering at the sound of every wind and jumping every time said wind blows the rickety gate shut.
It's simply because he's famed as the scariest that he knows, there are a lot more things that are scarier than him.
Especially the things that go bump in the night.
He watched as the sun sunk even closer below the horizon, making way for every scary thing's best time of the day.
Although Reek had began hating this time, no peace of mind, no place to hide with that sound always hunting him "Thump, Thump, Thump."
A ghost could only take so much.
So tonight, he enlisted the help of some monsters with the best sensory skills.
"This better not be a joke Reek." The deep voice of Jacob the werewolf sounded from the door.
"Why would you think it would be one?" Reek asked him back, managing to keep himself from flying out the window as Jacob startled him.
"Because, what kind of monster would make you gather both Jacob and I?" Bryan the hellhound asked in the corner.
In the dark his silhouette faintly shining yellow.
"It's the kind of Creature that goes thump in the dark." Reek answered simply.
"Are you kidding me?" Bryan growled and glowed significantly brighter.
"What kind of description is-" He was cut by Jacob as his ear twitched to a side.
"Do you hear that?" He asked.
Reek flew off out of the room, seeing that the moon had come out fully.
He flew back in shaking and pale (well as pale as a ghost could be)
"It's starting..", he muttered out.
"What's starting?" Bryan asked, looking unsurely between the ghost and the wolf.
In anger at being kept in the dark his power erupted and fire flew out of his body.
"Can both of you explain what's going on?"
THUMP THUMP THUMP
Upon hearing that dreaded sound, Reek became almost invisible and flew out.
Jacob and Bryan ran out into the hallway, following the sound of the thumps.
In the kitchen, the sound of the thumps stopped.
Jacob jumped inside startling an already fairly terrified Reek.
"What are you doing here?" He growled
"I was... I was..." Reek tried to answer.
"Did you see anything here?" Bryan asked, illuminating both the hallway and the kitchen by standing at the door.
"What? Noo, there was nothing here." Reek said trying to slow his shivers
"That's strange, I could've sworn it was coming from here." Jacob growled, sniffing around.
"W-w-well I'm certain I was the only one here." Reek said amidst stutters
"So what are you doing here?" Bryan asked him
"W-w-well... I-i was..."
THUMP THUMP THUMP
Immediately Jacob ran after the sound and Bryan ran after him, leaving Reek in the dark.
He breathed out as the sound he was scared of relieved him of the embarrassment of telling them he was hiding.
It's quite embarrassing isn't it? The idea of a spooked ghost.
Reek turned to look at who spoke, all he heard before he blacked out was a thump.
"Hey Jacob.." Bryan yelled at the wolf as it kept on searching.
"Reek isn't with us." Bryan yelled, looking back to see if the fearful ghost was flying after them.
"He's probably cowering in another room." Jonah growled back.
"I can't believe he was said to be the scariest ghost around here."
"Well this situation is a bit spooky if you think about it." Bryan lamented
"What are you talking about?" Jacob growled, turning back to face him.
"I'm just saying, a house that has been uninhabited by both monster and man except for a ghost for more than 2 centuries."
"Now out of nowhere there is this consistent thumping at night?"
THUMP THUMP THUMP
"It's louder now." Bryan said, looking at the rooms.
Jacob didn't wait for an invitation as he ran and went straight through the door into the room they had started from in the first place.
He saw a little troll-like creature with a drum.
First comes the wolf, hehehehe
He laughed rolling on the floor.
"Jacob!!" Bryan shouted as he ran to the room.
Oops can't let hounds in.
The troll hit his drum and the door closed.
Bryan watched in disbelief as the door shut closed on him, he opened it again and walked into another room.
Jacob ran and opened the door, looking at a different hallway from the one they had first been in.
"You switched the rooms?" Jacob asked in disbelief.
Neat trick, right?
He said laughing again
"Not really." Jacob said then jumped transforming mid air to slash the miniature troll even smaller.
THUMP THUMP THUMP
The troll hit his drum and Jonah found himself slashing the wall.
He didn't let up though, running and trying to slash, pound, bit and kick the troll.
He didn't touch him, but he had successfully destroyed the walls, door and roof.
It seems you're not the type of doggie to listen.
That's so sad, I guess you would have to disappear too.
"Too? Where's Reek?" Jacob shouted
Who? Ohhhh hehehehe
You mean the ghost, he's gone now.
I sent him deep into the abyss.
Jacob howled with rage, turning bigger and more stronger.
He dug his feet into the ground, breaking the floorboards, ready to slash the troll and pretty much everything else in the room.
Maybe you'll meet him.
With that last statement the troll hit a final note on his drum, just as Jacob flew to slash him.
THUMP
Bryan was on edge now, being separated from both Reek and Jacob, he was thinking about just ditching them and making it to the safety of his woods.
I'm surprised you didn't run.
Bryan turned to see the troll behind him.
"Where are they?" He asked, lighting up his whole body in flames.
Neat trick
The troll commented looking as the fire licked and danced on his body.
Unlike the wolf, I know you can already tell that I'm stronger than you.
Your friends are gone and you can either join them or leave here with a simple assignment.
Bryan, with tears in his eyes, let his hands down and put out his flames.
"What do you want?"
He asked with his head down.
Hahahahahahaha
There are a lot of things that I want actually but it's just one thing you'll do.
Go out and announce to all the creatures of this land.
The Main Monster of the Mogrin Mansion has returned.
THUMP THUMP
Bryan found himself just outside the rickety gates of the mansion. With the moon settling down and the sun about to rise.
While walking down the street only then did he realize he was shaking, his heart beating loudly in his ears.
He realized what this was. It was pure unbridled fear, a fear so great only given by a true monster.
Nearby, a tree branch broke and landed on the ground with a thump and Bryan shot out flames in shock.
Running through the woods, only one monster did he know that he truly feared, a monster that would hunt his dreams every night, the Thump Thump Monster.
