Hello and welcome to our new fiction writing prompt for this week.
But first, we would like to share some highlights from last week, and some information about rewards!
Highlights of the Week
Some wonderful stories were submitted for the “Heart and Soul” prompt. Thanks to @gracielaacevedo, @dwixer, @marcybetancourt, @justclickindiva, @litguru and @kemmyb. Each of these stories shared a different take on matters of the heart, inviting us to examine the ephemeral experience of love through the lives of different characters in various settings, scenarios and times in history. It was lovely to read them all! Please visit these stories, read them and share your thoughts with the authors.
Rewards
We, your community moderators, @jayna and @agmoore, have found our footing now that we are tasked with keeping our community alive and well! And we’re excited to share the range of ways that we’re rewarding community members for sharing their stories and for engaging with other content on the platform. The methods we have available to us for curating and rewarding stories and comments include upvoting content from our own accounts and from The Ink Well, leaving tips, curie upvotes (which lead to some really nice follow-on votes via the curie curation trail), and Engage tokens. And we are using them all!
The arts are a challenging undertaking. Being paid and rewarded for your creativity is not easy. The Ink Well is about encouraging the development of writing skills and the exploration of the elements of great fiction, and we are here to help our community members receive recognition for their work. So share your well-written and edited fiction here in The Ink Well Community, and engage with the work of other community members. Everyone benefits if we are supporting one another and growing as a community.
This Week’s Prompt
Because it’s Valentine’s week, we will give love another chance with the prompt: The moment when. This is actually quite a versatile prompt. You can use it to write about the moment your main character realizes she loves someone who she thought was just a friend. Or the moment when a couple realizes they no longer love one another.
Or it could be any other important moment of realization - for example, when a character realizes the person she thought was her sister is actually her mother. (Yes, this has happened in real life.) Or the moment your character on the Titanic realizes the ship is breaking up and is going to sink. It’s completely up to you. And of course you can use the featured image as your inspiration as well.
What are the events leading up to that pivotal moment in your story? Who are the characters, and why is the story being told right now, at this moment in their lives?
Remember the important elements of good fiction:
- A good setting
- Character development
- Conflict
- Dialog
- A story arc and resolution
