It was just one of those Mondays that started off wrong ,the sky was dull, rain had been threatening since morning, and there was tension in the air, at the corner table of a small café near campus, Tolu sat hunched over her laptop, frustration written all over her face.
She was tapping her pen nonstop, biting her lower lip and glancing at the screen like it owed her money.
Her friend, Amara, walked in carrying two meat pies and a bottle of malt, noticed the tension, and slowly took the seat opposite her.
“Bae ... Why do you look like your entire village is resting on your shoulders?” Amara asked, unwrapping one of the meat pies.
Tolu sighed so loudly that the guy sitting beside them glanced over. “Amara, I can’t find my seminar file, you know, the final year presentation one, I have searched everywhere , flash drive, email, laptop. It’s gone.”
Amara paused mid-bite. “Gone, how? Did you delete it or what?”
“I don’t even know o, i remember editing it on Friday, but now... it is like it just disappeared.” Tolu’s voice was shaky. “I am presenting today, Amara. Today o.”
“Okay, okay... don’t panic,” Amara said, trying to stay calm for the both of them, “Have you checked Google Drive? Sometimes your laptop auto-syncs.”
“I have checked everything,” Tolu replied, her eyes glossy, “If I don’t present today, I might carry the course, this is so unfair.”
Amara looked at her closely, then leaned back in her chair, “Don’t sweat it.”
Tolu’s face twisted. “Amara, I just told you my entire future is hanging and you are telling me not to sweat it?”
“Yes,” Amara nodded. “Because panicking will not make the file appear, let’s think. Where exactly did you do the last edit?”
Tolu blinked, then sat up straighter, “Wait...... I was at my cousin’s place on Friday and I used her laptop.”
Amara leaned in, a smirk creeping across her lips “Call her, Right now.”
Tolu didn’t hesitate, she pulled out her phone and dialed her cousin’s number, And after a few rings, someone picked, Tolu’s voice changed immediately.
“Please check your laptop... Documents folder... YES! That’s it! Forward it to me, please. Now!”
Amara sat back, arms crossed, smiling like she just solved a murder case.
Tolu ended the call and looked at her friend with eyes wide open,“You’re a witch.”
Amara burst out laughing. “A fine, intelligent witch, please.”
“I don’t even know what I would have done if I did noy find it.”
“I told you not to sweat it,” Amara said, sipping her malt.
The tension that had clouded the table earlier was gone, Tolu finally smiled, opened her email, and started downloading the file, “Thank you, Amara, I swear, I owe you lunch after this.”
“You owe me lunch and a tub of ice cream,” Amara said. “Plus, you are never saving your project in just one place again.”
Tolu nodded. “Next time, I will even send it to my future self.”
They laughed, and just like that, a chaotic morning turned into a memory.
See sometimes all it takes is a friend with a calm voice and a cool head to remind you ,no matter how crazy it gets , just don’t sweat it.
