This is how everyone in the town of San Lorenzo understood that desires, although they are the main purpose for many, harbor with them situations that cannot be left aside.
It all began with Elias, a young man of extraordinary intellect and imagination. He was already thirty-two years old, but he did not look it, for he possessed a very youthful bearing. He always wore his hair in an excessively messy style that seemed to have never known a comb. His bulging eyes, adorned with bags under his eyes, suggested that he did not sleep much, while his thinness showed a body that was not very well nourished.
Elias lived alone; he lived on the out-of-the-way hillside near the road-shaped ribs that led to the forest. He had no family, no known friends. His fate seemed to be marked by loneliness.
Elias was a genius and loved to invent things. He used his talents to create useful geniuses, such as a sink that washes dishes by itself, a carpet that absorbs dust almost instantly when it detects it, and he also had a chair with arms around it that gave massages. Visiting his house was like entering a museum of the future full of wonders.
There was a season when a severe drought hit San Lorenzo, and there was no rain. The pastures and crops began to turn yellowish and dry. People did what they could to maintain the crops with the little water that came, but it was not enough. The longing and desperation pushed everyone to pray for even a drop of water to fall.
All this desire for rain began to be captured by Elias, and he turned the nuts of his genius to invent a machine that would fulfill the greatest desire of the people of the town. Elias found a way to capture that source of energy coming from the people and enclosed it in a capacitor where that force flowed with control.
After finishing his invention, he told the townspeople that it was going to rain soon, which raised the curiosity of all the people. Although they didn't think much of Elias, since they saw him as a lonely and eccentric madman, the people in San Lorenzo were desperate, and any idea seemed good to them. Besides, with an invention of such magnitude, which would only bring them rain, if it worked, what could go wrong?
Activating the machine from the town square, a sort of capsule shot out of a cannon into the sky and exploded as it hit the clouds, then the clouds began to turn gray, and quickly, there was a thunderstorm. The people watched in amazement and joy as a rain shower approached, but to everyone's surprise, instead of rain, objects began to fall.

Hats, watches, bracelets, even toys, flooded the roofs, streets, and avenues. People sheltered in houses until the phenomenon passed, then went out to look around.
“This is my necklace!” Mrs. Consuelo exclaimed. “I had lost it years ago!”
“Here's my cowhide hat!” Mr. Augusto affirmed. “Here it has my initials marked on its brim!”
“Mom, look, it's my Optimus Prime, the one I lost last year!” shouted the son of Cecilia, the baker. “He even keeps the mark I made on his right foot!”
And just like that, all the people in town began to recognize their lost items lying around. That got Elias thinking, he realized that the machine fulfilled people's longings to find their precious objects, but not the wish for rain, so Elias asked all the inhabitants of San Lorenzo to focus on wishing for rain, but it didn't work, since objects kept falling from the sky.
People became desperate and blamed each other: *Who isn't wishing for rain? Stop the vanity, we have to work together! It's all the fault of that infernal machine!
The resentments continued to the point where the townspeople became violent and tried to destroy Elijah's machine, but he, on an impulse, stopped them by giving them an idea that got them thinking.
“Please, this is not the solution!” shouted Elijah. “We can use the objects falling from the sky to make a better system that will allow us to bring more water for the crops!”
The people were petrified and they all looked at each other at that idea, which, they didn't think was a bad one, after all, there was enough material to work on that project.
Everyone in the village began to work as a community. Using Elias's technology and ingenuity, progress was faster than expected. Soon, the hydraulic system began to work, and water was spraying the fields and reaching people's homes with force. The longing became a reality, and the problem of drought was lost forever. Elias was seen as a hero, and the people of the village learned that the wishes of the heart are not always good.

LA MÁQUINA QUE CUMPLE DESEOS
Fue así como todos en el pueblo de San Lorenzo, comprendieron que los deseos, aunque son el fin mayoritario para muchos, albergan con ellos situaciones que no se pueden dejar de lado.
Todo comenzó con Elías, un joven con un intelecto e imaginación extraordinarios. Ya tenía treinta y dos años, pero no los aparentaba, pues poseía un porte muy juvenil. Siempre llevaba un excesivo cabello desordenado que parecía nunca haber conocido un peine. Sus ojos saltones y adornados con bolsas en sus ojeras daban a entender que no dormía mucho, a la vez que su delgadez exhibía un cuerpo no muy bien alimentado.
Elías vivía solo apartado en la colina que quedaba en las lejanías, cerca de las gargantas con forma de caminos que daban hacia el bosque. No tenía familia, ni un amigo que se le conociera. Su destino parecía estar marcado por la soledad.
Elías era un genio y le encantaba inventar cosas. Usaba sus talentos para crear genialidades útiles, como un fregadero que lava los platos solo, una alfombra que al detectar el polvo lo absorbe casi instantáneamente y también tenía una silla con brazos a su alrededor que propiciaba masajes. Visitar su casa era como entrar a un museo del futuro lleno de maravillas.
Hubo una temporada en que una fuerte sequía azotó a San Lorenzo y no llovía. Los pastos y cultivos comenzaron a adquirir un color amarillento y seco. Las personas hacían lo que podían para mantener los cultivos con la poca agua que llegaba, pero no era suficiente. El anhelo y la desesperación empujó a todos a rezar porque cayera una gota de agua siquiera.
Todo este deseo por lluvia, comenzó a ser captado por Elías, y movió las tuercas de su genialidad para inventar una máquina que cumplieran el mayor deseo de la gente del pueblo. Elías encontró la manera de captar aquella fuente de energía que provenía de la gente y la encerró en un condensador donde fluía con control aquella fuerza.
Luego de terminar su invento, le comentó a la gente del pueblo que pronto iba a llover; lo que elevó la curiosidad de todas las personas. Aunque no le tenían mucha estima a Elías, puesto que lo veían como un loco solitario y excéntrico, las personas en San Lorenzo estaban absolutamente desesperadas y cualquier idea les parecía buena. Además, con un invento de tal magnitud, que solo les traería lluvia, sí es que funciona, ¿qué podría salir mal?
Al activar la máquina desde la plaza del pueblo, una especie de cápsula salió disparada por un cañón hacia el cielo y explotó al llegar a las nubes, luego estas comenzaron a volverse grises y rápidamente hubo una tormenta eléctrica. Las personas observaban con asombro y alegría como una lluvia se aproximaba, pero para sorpresa de todos, en vez de lluvia, comenzaron a caer objetos.
Sombreros, relojes, pulseras, hasta juguetes, inundaban los techos, las calles y avenidas. La gente se refugiaba en las casas hasta que el fenómeno pasó, luego salieron a echar un vistazo a su alrededor.
“¡Este es mi collar!” Exclamó la señora Consuelo. “¡Lo había perdido hace años!”
“¡Aquí está mi sombrero de cuero de vaca!” Afirmó el señor Augusto. “¡Aquí tiene mis iniciales marcadas en su borde!”
“¡Mamá, mira, es mi Optimus Prime, el que perdí el año pasado!” Gritó el hijo de Cecilia, la panadera. “¡Hasta conserva la marca que le hice en su pie derecho!”
Y así, todas las personas del pueblo empezaron a reconocer sus objetos perdidos tirados por doquier. Eso hizo pensar a Elías, se dio cuenta de que la máquina cumplió los anhelos de las personas por encontrar sus preciados objetos, pero no el deseo de que lloviera, así que Elías le pidió a todos los habitantes de San Lorenzo que se enfocaran en desear que lloviera, pero no funcionaba, puesto que seguían cayendo objetos del cielo.
La gente se desesperaba y se culpaban los unos a los otros: ¿Quién no está deseando que llueva? ¡Dejen la vanidad, hay que trabajar juntos! ¡Todo es culpa de esa máquina infernal!
Los resentimientos seguían hasta el punto en que la gente del pueblo se volvía violenta e intentaba destruir la máquina de Elías, pero él, en un impulso, los detuvo dándoles una idea que los puso a pensar.
“¡Por favor, esto no es la solución!” Gritaba Elías. “¡Podemos usar los objetos que caen del cielo para fabricar un sistema mejor que nos permita traer más agua para los cultivos!”
La gente se petrificó y todos se miraron entre ellos ante aquella idea, la cual, no les pareció mala, después de todo, había suficiente material como para trabajar en aquel proyecto.
Todos en el pueblo comenzaron a trabajar en comunidad. Usando la tecnología y el ingenio de Elías, los avances fueron más rápidos de lo esperado. Pronto, el sistema hidráulico comenzó a funcionar, y el agua rociaba los campos y llegaba con fuerza a las casa de las personas. El anhelo se convirtió en realidad, y el problema de la sequía se perdió para siempre. Elías fue visto como un héroe y las personas del pueblo aprendieron que no siempre los deseos del corazón son buenos.
