My phone beeped again with a message from my amiable virtual friend.
"How about an outing?"
I giggled. I never went on impromptu outings and that too with a virtual friend. The time frame usually had to be very extended, say a month. But somehow, I wanted to go on this particular outing.
"Definitely. That should be fun" I responded briefly before putting my phone on 'do not disturb' mode. With the friendly distraction out of the way, I continued battling with the voluminous textbook in front of me.

I had a test in two days and here I was, accepting to go on a date.
"Where has your over-studious self gone?" I said under my breath.
Soon enough, the outing was sorted out. The next day came very rapidly and it was then I realised that I hadn't made any preparations whatsoever towards the outing. What outfit do I put on? How do I even get to the venue?
Thoughts flooded my mind but I did what I knew how to do best; go with the flow. I threw on a pair of pants and top, wore a comfortable pair of shoes and headed out for the adventure.
The last time I decided to have some fun was during my birthday, which was over seven months earlier, so I took this outing as a means to explore, have fun and relax. Afterall, they say that "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy".
Just as I envisioned, it was nothing short of fun. Maybe too much fun judging from the fact that this was our first ever meeting.

I learnt how to ride a two wheeled electric hoverboard. This was the highlight of my outing. I realized that the hoverboard had a lot of physics to its operation. Learning how to maintain balance, fighting against gravity while still managing to maintain composure. I almost lost my voice from screaming the first few minutes after stepping on the hoverboard. I had an instructor who was supposed to guide me but he seemed to be in a world of his own.
"How do I control the hoverboard?" I inquired.
"All you have to do is free yourself" the instructor said
Free myself? The voice in my head screamed. Free myself and risk losing my front teeth?
"I'm sorry but I can't just free myself. It may take a while" I responded, trying to be as composed as possible, when I was clearly so terrified.
"I'd be here to guide you. Just follow my lead and do as I say".
"Follow your lead? Gladly".
Fifteen minutes into the supervised training, I had mastered the art to a certain degree. This was when the real fun began.
I slowly watched how things I had written in my bucket list twelve months ago got ticked mentally.
- Go on an outing; white heavy check mark.
- Play fun games at the mall; white heavy check mark.
- Get a sneak peak of the famous Christmas village in December; white heavy check mark
I'm a sucker when it comes to having fun. I would rather lay in my bed all day rather than go out and actually see the world from a different point of view. From a realistic and not virtual point of view.
After spending a greater part of my day with the virtual friend turn physical friend, getting to know new places, meeting new people and basically exploring, I returned home feeling really light.
This was a very needed and well appreciated outing which happened to come at the right time.
After I returned, I sat in the quiet comfort of my room as I reflected on the somewhat unexpected turn of events. The outing, initiated by a virtual friend, had seamlessly transformed into a day filled with laughter, new experiences, and a break from my typically studious routine. As I sat by my desk, the textbook still open, I couldn't help but appreciate the spontaneity that had brought me to this moment.
