I did a fun little collaboration with a pal, recently! I've been working on a dungeon synth project (working name so far is IRON ETTIN), focusing my efforts on the use of a DX21 FM Synthesizer. I was messing around, laying some THICK string presets through some Supermassive reverb. I added some minimal drum, as well as a cavernous bass line from the Moog Grandmother.
饾暛饾枈饾枂饾枤饾枡饾枮 饾枎饾枔 饾枆饾枈饾枠饾枡饾枟饾枤饾枅饾枡饾枎饾枖饾枔
At this point, I was kind of laughing to myself, wondering if I was even hitting the mark for the genre. I turned to a few friends in a small Discord group. Instantly, SORCXRXR replied, "It's got a big heavy sound that I like. Do not abandon it... Or give it to me to add to!". I instantly packed up the sound files and shipped them his way, excited to see what he could come up with. He operates an SP-404 for most of his lo-fi, hip-hop, spaced out beats
Two hours later, he sends me a disgustingly lo-fi, busted, growly, mean aberration of what was once my already sludgy strings:
饾杺饾枈 饾枩饾枂饾枒饾枒饾枖饾枩 饾枎饾枔 饾枙饾枂饾枎饾枔 饾枡饾枖饾枌饾枈饾枡饾枍饾枈饾枟
So there you have it, a fun little Monday afternoon collaboration that is beautiful, loud & demanding. Two people, a DX21, a Grandmother, a Digitakt and an SP-404.
