There’s nothing like skating a real concrete pipe that is perfectly smooth and perfectly round.
It's like the pipe was made for skateboarding.
We took these pics around 1978-ish and this was a pipe that my friend Hernan found sitting on a big, empty construction lot in Irwindale, CA.
Pipes are interesting cause there’s only so much you can do in them.
Their attraction is more in how rare they are to find.
(I’ve only ever skated this “real” concrete pipe in the wild - not counting skatepark pipes, metal pipes, or huge cylindrical powder containers that we had to squeeze through a small hole to skate inside)
Then, the main challenge is to see how high you can go.
Once you get as high as you can, you might try airs, Bert slides, or fly outs, but pipes are generally pretty limited. (Speaking for myself!)
These pics are of me and my friends skating the Irwindale pipe. It was kinda small, about 14' in diameter, but we attacked it anyway.
The dude that kicked us out, as he stands in awe of our skateboarding.
