Last time I wrote about the Legendary Card Divine Coronet from the Light’s Verdict mini-set, and now I want to talk about another Legendary card in the set: Forged In The Light
The Chosen One (CO) has always been an interesting mechanic, and there was even a God Power specifically for it before I started playing Gods Unchained. After it was changed, it seems like CO decks were nowhere to be found, although there were still some cards that supported it. With Light’s Verdict, we see a couple more cards that focus on this concept so let’s see if it can bring it back!

Link to Deck List. This is a Midrange (kinda Control-ish) deck that I came up with which utilizes a lot of the Light’s Verdict cards. The mini-set is just too good!
There are some cool interactions in the deck, so let’s take a look. Of course we’re focusing on using Forged In The Light as soon as possible so we can beef up the CO, and for that we can use Enlightenment to directly pull it from your deck. With Martyr of Whiteplain, we can actually turn the downside of Enlightenment into an upside! Discarding the Martyr will put her in the void, and next time one of your creatures dies, you’ll get it back in hand plus have a 2/2 Frontline on the board! We all know that Radiant Embalmer and Inescapable Duty is a mean cycle that can get you some threats or control depending on the situation, but now you also have the Martyr to bring back high value creatures, some of which have impactful roars like Embalmer!
If you don’t currently have a CO, you can use Kadmos to assign it to the Archpriest of Parthene. Imagine a setup where you use Lips are Sealed to give Order to a bunch of enemies and then use Forged In The Light to draw your Archpriest, the next turn you’ll have a huge Archpriest that you can keep buffing with your new God Power! But sadly, sometimes even the Chosen One dies (heroically, of course). To help you quickly find the next one, you have a bunch of draw in the deck, plus an Illuminated Warrior to assign it to the next creature you draw! You can use your various void interactions to bring back this Warrior and keep assigning a CO so that you can continually use your God Power.

Your mulligan will depend on your opponent; if you know they are Aggro, get more cards in hand that deal with creatures or stall them, like Eucos in Eclipse, Inquisitor Informant, Light’s Levy, and so on. If you’re playing against a slower deck, you may opt for more value options and start the CO process with Illuminated Warrior, Triumirate Prophet, or even Forged In The Light.

You have your early game removal/control options with Censure, Eucos in Eclipse, Light’s Levy, Inquisitor Informant, then you move to the midgame with strong Frontlines and draw like Highborn Light, Sern, and Blade of Whiteplain. Once you have an opening you can play Forged In The Light and start pumping up your CO! If your opponent’s board gets too big, use your Order cards to stall them and drop down a menacing Archpriest. You can sometimes win games alone with just a huge Archpriest!

The Chosen One was an interesting mechanic and I think with the new Light’s Verdict set we may see some Chosen Ones take charge into battle again, thanks to Forged In The Light. You can create some terrifying beefcakes with that God Power! Do you think you’ll give the Chosen One a chance?
