I have never boasted about my deck and results on Weekend Ranked in Gods On Chain. Probably because I had no real reasons for that. 😄 But today I feel inspired for this mission. First of all, I fully recovered from covid and, secondly, I have made 15 wins in Mythic on the Weekend Ranked so I want to summarize and share. I hope someone will find this post helpful.
Estimated price is 0.0439 ETH
Deck code: GU_1_2_CCmCCmCDDCDDIAlIAlBDtBDtBEsBFqGBCCCMCCMIClIClGBoGBoGBpGBpCEDCEDIAkICqICtCEXICHGBjGBjCAJCAJ
This is not just a deck. This is the fruit of reflections, attempts, defeats, bleeding for almost three months. (I minted a card for the first time on December 1, 2021, and this is my true GU birthday, I consider).
So let me share some details.
First Damage
The beginning is about taking control of the board. At the same time, if Mulligan gives me Switch Duelist (or two) + Dark Knives, I try finishing half the life of the opponent as soon as possible. If things come nice, I can switch all creatures into the face damage mode to end the game in a few turns. But it happens not often. My core powers consist of 3-mana creatures with 2 Desert Mercenaries as accelerators.
A Dangerous Mob
I have 8 creatures that can work with Desert Mercenary's roar:
- Armor Lurker, 2
- Jinxblabe Duelist, 2
- Diligent Architect, 2
- Desert Mercenary, 2
A mob of Guild creatures with the cost reduced to 1 mana waiting to enter the board at the 4th turn.
Situational
Delving with Diligent Architects allows me to be more situational. When I encounter magicians, I often delve attacking creatures with big health. For War, I often choose large frontlines. Etc.

My creatures with armor 1 thanks to Miasmic Forge from a Diligent Architect
Labyrinth Guard with health 10 and armor 1. Try to get through (without Orfeo's Distraction)...
Direct Face Damage
I decided to include 1 Surprise Delivery to make direct face damage additionally to (potential) bombs of Inconspicuous Carriage. It makes my deck stronger especially against Magic.
And, yes, Surprise Delivery sometimes goes well with Rapture Dance.
No Legendaries
I included no legendaries this time. I have Lady Marcella and Scylla in my collection but I don't see they are enough useful for my deck.
My rival tried to beat me with Lady Marcella. I removed her and her rogues with Rapture Dance... The game was over for my opponent.
I love the Hollow but it doesn't help to play fast. And a slow game is what guys with big creatures want.
I thought about including a Lokian Disciple but... a 7-mana creature is redundant for my deck. For the same reason, I get rid of Porphyrion although the card is cool and I miss its power...
Most Contradictive Card
Counterfeit can win the game. But too often it hangs out idle. Probably, I should substitute it with something that can help better against War.
Most Useful Purchase
I bought a couple of Mugging a week+ ago. Quite expensive, 0.0064 ETH currently, which is 1.5 times more than popular legendary Lady Marcella costs and this is for a good reason. I got significant progress immediately. Mugging is, in fact, blitz and it is perfect for beating cards with protection and getting control of the board.
Choosing a Big Creature for Deception Deck
At some point, I noticed that I regularly lost not being able to finish off a half-dead opponent. This was probably because I had no big guys for the finale. I tried many, I searched... My last choice is "semi-big" Ironclad Minotaur, a couple of them.
6-mana is enough early. When 8 mana is open, you can play Ironclad Minotaur and, still, you will have 2 mana left for doing something else, this is huge. Ward for the god is a nice addition especially while you play against Magic. Removing sleep can ruin plans of a Demogorgon.
A magician is removing protection from my Ironclad Minotaur. This didn't help him much
My Stats for the current Weekend Ranked
Domain | Won | Lost | |
---|---|---|---|
Nature | 7 | 2 | So many nature players... I have been learning to beat them all this time. |
War | 2 (1*) | 4 | I need to have a premeditated reply to Over-Proof Brew and Sole Survivor instead of hoping that this will somehow resolve itself. |
Magic | 2 | 2 | Recently, I was helpless against Magic. This is what helps me: 1) an attacker (Jinxblade, for example) hidden by God's power 2) big creatures from Diligent Architect 3) bombs of Surprise Delivery and Inconspicuous Carriage 4) Magic spells copied by Ludia's Dedicant and Lightfoot Informant 5) Ironclad Minotaurs. A big Guild mob entering at the same time can be a solution too |
Death | 2 | 0 | I usually have more "meat" than zombie decks do. Desert Mercenary helps to create a powerful mob. Diligent Architect brings huge frontlines. Mugging ignores the backline so I can damage 3 to Cursed Obelisk. Rapture Dance cleans the board. Counterfeit steals Necroscepter. Etc. |
Deception | 1 | 1 | I know Deception the most. I feel confident playing against it but losing is usual as well. |
Light | 0 | 1 | Rare domain. If an opponent's deck is not too expensive, I feel ok. Just don't allow a crowd to appear on the opposite side of the board. |
* - The opponent conceded in the first round.
Hooray!
Advice and additions are welcome in the comment section!
I created the title image with the help of online app Photopea. I found an image of the golden cup on pexels.com. The image of Orfeo came from @freeztag's post here. I also used @freeztag's cool divider for the post. Thank you!
