Welcome to my weekly Splinterlands post. Recently I have been posting a lot about chasing up the soulbound cards before the new edition released. I know for some players this might sound boring, but today you don't have to worry about it, because today I will share different topic. It is about one of the Conclave Arcana cards
It is Virid Venomancer. You can read the name, VENOM-MANCER, so she is all about VENOM! Yes indeed, her second ability is poison. So this card will poison opponents tank to kill them gradually. In some meta, Poison is super cool, but it is not something that generally will work well. It is RNG based, 50% activation, so even you do all thing right, you can be screwed too by the odds.
Her first ability is Shield Ward, which grants a shield ability to the unit in front of her. Well, all abilities should be appreciated, right? I honestly having no exact clue how to utilize this ability before. I thought by setting her on the second place, it will grand a shield to the main tank and that's a cool move, however when the main tank dies, Virid Venomancer is definitely far from suitable to be a secondary tank.
However recently from a few battle, I realized that the shield is not only meant for the main tank. In some case, we could exploit this shield to the target of snipes. I don't think opportunity can be countered by this ability, because Virid Venomancer herself has low health point, which makes her as the first target for the opportunity attackers.
So let me share you one of the recent battles where I used her to buff up the snipping target.
HIGHLIGHTED BATTLE
I pick this battle from the others for two specific reasons. First my opponent use the same ability on their own meta which is different from mine.
Look at that, they have Mana Warden with his Shield Ward ability. It is a no brainer that my opponent want to keep Warborn Chieftain longer. Actually this is exactly a formation that I dislike alot, because once that tank dies, Mana Warden soon will follow. He is far from being decent for the tank role.
The second reason is that my opponent has Fenmoor Wood Trool, which is said as the natural flying units killer, due to his Wingbreak ability. He definitely aim for my secondary tank, Molten Elemental, because this Elemental unit is flying. This is how I will show you that Virid Venomancer will guard the Molten Elemental from that Wood Troll.
Recently I do not like to talk deep about battle, because you can watch it directly from clicking the first battle image above. So here I will only point out the key decisive situation only.
Virid Venomancer manages to give Shield ability to the Molten Elemental, and you can see now my Elemental has a void and a shield ability, which means he is strong against any kind of attack. At this point, we can say that my Molten Element has reach to a point which he is a good secondary tank, and it's all thanks to Virid Venomancer Shield Ward ability.
The beginning of second round shows how I dislike the Mana Warden, when their Warborn Chieftain got killed, Mana warden just died without any resistance. This is the same reason why initially I did not see Virid Venomancer shield warden ability as something good, because it could make me lose two units in a one go.
At round 4, you can see that their Fenmoor Wood Troll could not do anything here. He could not bring down my Molten Elemental dispite having a wingbreak ability. That one shield ability given by the Virid Venomancer, and I haven't used the Virid Venomancer with the poison ability, yet...
This battle might not an epic one, but it clearly shows what Virid Venomancer could do that Mana Warden can not, even though Shield Warden ability is a trademark ability from the Mana Warden.
What do you think about this Virid Venomancer, do you still see her like I used to, which is without poison ability, she will be useless.
