It's good to be here again after a short while, I miss your kind comment.
This evening, I want to share my view on what I title many are called but few are chosen. I will be reading from the book of Judges 7:1_10.
This passage of the scripture is a very familiar passage to us, but it is embedded with so many things that can be linked to our daily lives.
This passage has more to do with God's choices versus man's choices. What we see as good choices might not be what God sees as good choices.
The choice may be defined as a decision taken in favor of what is considered the best for the purpose thereof(personal), and it's permitted by nature.
The choice, however, and whatsoever is involved, is largely influenced by individual value systems. Take, for instance, a farmer who selects his crops based on the characteristics that interest him.
This is because one is expected to derive maximum benefit from the choice that has been made so far. No average higher animal ( man) will consciously choose what will not justify the reason for such a decision and conclusion.
God has an individual who has what he values in a man; He will always stick his neck to those who possess his desired characteristics.
According to Judges 7:1_10, the bible recorded that Gideon and the people who were with him rose early in the morning, and they encamped beside the spring of Herod; and the camp of Midian which was in the North, by the hill of Horeh, in the valley.
The Lord told Gideon that the people he took were too many and that he should instruct anyone afraid or fearful to return to his house. He was surprised to see about twenty _two thousand men returning to their various homes, while ten thousand people remained.
The Lord told him the second time that the people were still many and that he should take them down to the water because he wanted to test them for him. So Gideon obeyed him.
When Gideon takes them to the water, some of them lap water with their hands while the other people kneel to drink.
The Lord told Gideon that he should take those who lap the water with their hands, and there were about three hundred men. He told him to retain them and send away those who knelt to drink.
God assured him that those people would deliver.
In conclusion, it's rather unfortunate that, after such expensive lessons learned, generations of men are still not taking sober reflection on this sensitive issue.
Why are we not bothered about our position as to whether we are on the safe side or vice versa? It's quite reasonable to appreciate the fact that we were favored to be selected alongside others, but we should likewise be conscious of whether we're in a position to make the final list.
The scripture warns us not to be like Esau, who traded his position of authority for temporal satisfaction but had to face the consequences of his actions. Hebrews 12: 16, 17.
