Cody Rhodes' speech to hype up his match with GUNTHER was a decent try, but something still feels off. He tried to frame this match as a "dream match" by bringing up old rivalries, comparing this to hypothetical showdowns like Goldberg versus Stone Cold. But it's pretty obvious that this just doesn’t have that same level of tension or hype.
There’s a sense of anticipation, no doubt. Besides, it’s for a championship, but the whole thing looks more manufactured than organic.
The bit about doing this for his daughter was an attempt to stir up our emotions and that's cool, cause Family pride matters. We’ve all got people we care about and want to impress.
But does that make this match necessary?
Not really.
Wrestling is all about storytelling, and there hasn't been enough drama stirring the pot towards this match. In fact, they've only had two encounters after Bad Blood when it was announced that they would be fighting at Crown Jewel in a couple of weeks.
Just talks, and title flex.
Maybe GUNTHER’s reasoning next week will shake things up. Or maybe, like Rhodes hinted, it’ll just boil down to “I’m the champ, so I fight.” And that’s fine, I guess, but still not enough to make this matchup something special.
Anyways, I gotta "acknowledge" Cody for how good he is with the mic. I bet if that guy runs for president of America one day he'd win.
